#DharaBindu brings you insights into #LiDAR technology used by the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, under the Ministry of Earth Sciences for continuous monitoring of winds, aerosols and clouds in the troposphere. LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) uses electromagnetic energy (0.3–1.6 µm) to detect aerosols and clouds, with Doppler techniques measuring wind velocity. As part of #MissionMausam, #IITM has established an observational facility at #MoES under the Urban Meteorology Testbed-Delhi. Scanning Wind Lidar System (1.54 µm) and Ceilometer (0.91 µm) provide 24x7, all-weather data on urban winds, aerosols and clouds.
