Over the past decade, I have reviewed over 1,000 cv's in search for the best team members to join our team. I see a lot of people in Israel in need of jobs these days so sharing some tips from my experience as a manager and Organizational Psychologist that I hope can be helpful. If you have any questions or additional insights, please feel free to comment below or pm me. I divided the job-seeking journey into 4 stages: 1. Self-reflection 2. CV building 3. Networking 4. “Dating” your future boss In this post I will cover some pointers for the first 3 stages. Next post will cover pointers for the last stage. *Self-reflection* 1. Self-reflection and understanding what you are good at and what you are passionate about. 2. Who are you - Need to be able to answer this in 2-3 lines at the top of the CV. Are you a manager and looking to be in a leadership role or more of a hands-on executive? Is your focus marketing/sales/coding/project management? Pro tip: Ask your friends to be honest with you and share the value they see you bring. It will crystalize your own view as well. *CV and LinkedIn profile* 1. CV building - how does your future boss know you are great at what you do? What success and impact did you have that you can articulate with numbers? 2. The design is great. But the most important is the content. Make sure clear description in the header what you do and keep it short, with bullet points and a 1-pager. Make sure no mistakes. If there is even 1 typo, it is a no-go. 3. Passion talks. Years ago I hired a young man with very little experience because he came with great passion and told me how he taught himself code at age 11. See how you can find that story that highlights your greatness. *Networking* 1. Networking and asking friends for an intro or to put in a good word. Identify 10 people you will have coffee with to brainstorm your career. Some will give you great advice. Others will give you a good lead. 2. Don't only think about networking with those who can give you the job today but rather with those who know people that can help you. 3. The best way to build trust is to show your work in action. I once hired someone because he reached out and explained to me in a loom video why one of my client websites stinked and how that can be fixed. He didn't tell me what he does but showed me. What tips have you found as a manager that you would give future employees?

A week ago today I took the stage at Content Israel as a key speaker. I transparently shared in a room with over 300 fellow marketers that the first thing my CEO always asks me when we brainstorm a new campaign or program is, “Jen, what’s your content distribution plan?” 7 days and 3 hours to the dot, Daniel Kushner 🐙 asked me to provide my content distribution plan for one of our latest customer programs ( side note: super excited to launch, it's still top secret, so do stay tuned) And you know what was front and center as part of that distribution plan? #EmployeeAdvocacy. Why? Because when you understand how to use employee networks to distribute your content you crack the code in making sure your content is seen by the right people, from the right people in your organization. You create meaningful and personalized customer journeys. You stay true to what social media was intended for-- being social, and build a people-to-people connection. You use the authentic voices of your employees to share the content you’ve worked so hard to create ensuring that your content sees the light of day, you get the credit you deserve, and you can measure the actual engagement and reach of that content far beyond your corporate profile. And most importantly, you build meaningful relationships and can understand what content was used to help build them... So my question to you is, do you include #EmployeeAdvocacy as part of your distribution plan? Sharing my slide on my thought process on how to use advocacy to build meaningful customer journeys if some may find it helpful.

This one question can save your SaaS company from failure. When I met a SaaS company founder in Tel Aviv, I asked him:   "𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐢𝐧 3 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬?" They identify critical issues early—and fix them. Last week Bria was ranked #20 of the most promising startups in Israel, kudos to the team! It is a long journey to build a startup. At 8 years old, I fell in love with mathematics, and at that point, I knew that's what I'd get my PhD in. That passion not only shaped my academic path but also ignited my interest in visual technologies and AI, which led me to pursue a PhD in computer vision. During my studies, I began to realise just how much the future of content would change with AI coming into the mix. Fast-forward to 2020, during COVID and before the Gen AI hype, I combined my understanding of how visuals can be generated with AI and the valuable enterprise experience I gained in my previous role at Trax Retail, to co-establish an AI startup called BRIA. We had one simple goal: To make it easy for any individual and company to generate the exact visuals needed for any use. Our key objective in helping you achieve this is to ensure that we provide you with a transparent, open, and responsible AI platform trained solely on licensed data, no public figures and deep fake, no privacy infringement. And in a world where more than 43% of people don't trust companies to use AI morally, Responsible AI use has never been more important. How My Competitor’s $2M Raise Proved Me Right 2 years ago, I envisioned an AI-powered product sourcing agent to empower small and medium-sized retailers — those without large teams or deep cross-domain expertise — to reduce sourcing time, mitigate risks and stay ahead of market trends. After relocating to Israel, I took the plunge: assembled a team of ambitious immigrant talent, conducted in-depth market research and 30+ customer interviews, left my job, and invested my own $7K to bring this vision to life. We've worked tirelessly, and just a month before our beta launch, I discovered a competing startup, founded by former Amazon, Google and Stripe employees, that launched on September 13 after raising $2M in a pre-seed round from XYZ Venture Capital, Propel Ventures and Go Global Ventures. No significant traction, no real product — just a raw beta and social media posts filled with Midjourney-generated images. Instead of viewing this as a setback, it validated my vision. The fact that 2 similar projects emerged simultaneously proves there's a growing demand for solutions like ours. If large-scale teams are also pursuing this, it confirms that the market is ripe for transformation, and I’m proud to have been thinking in the same direction. For months, I battled impostor syndrome (not anymore), but this proves that innovative thinking isn't exclusive to industry giants. I arrived at the same solution independently, driven by data, passion and conviction, and ahead of the global AI hype. I may not have the corporate pedigree or deep pockets, but I do have something equally powerful: an amazing team, long-term vision, entrepreneurial resilience and unwavering support from my wife. I believe our product will inject fresh competition into the market, benefiting everyone. Now, I’m looking for partners to help accelerate this momentum with venture investment, connections, expertise and advice. My friend shared this hot take about Israeli startups and I can't stop thinking about it. That first US hire almost never works out. They all blame different things, but ultimately? It's culture. Sure, they come with a very impressive GTM background and you count on them bringing that skill to your team. But there's this whole other job no one talks about in the interviews: Being the bridge. Do they actually get Israeli culture? Can they help Israelis adapt to American business? Can they convince great American talent to work with Israeli founders? It's such a tough balance to strike. My friend's take (which I totally agree with): Stop obsessing over finding the "top marketers" in New York. Look for people who can build bridges. Yeah, maybe their marketing skills aren't quite as polished. But they'll stick around. They'll grow. And most importantly? They'll help you build the right team. Sometimes the perfect resume isn't what you need. You need someone who can speak both languages (and I don't mean Hebrew).

One of the biggest mistakes founders make is hiring a VP Sales (or a VP Marketing) too early. Omer (CEO) and Roi (CTO) are co-founders with technical backgrounds (they worked together in an elite unit in the army) - they had a great startup idea, raised money, built a product with some design partners, and started selling. They approached relevant prospect enterprises through all possible channels, but gained limited interest and very few sales. They realized that they didn't have a sales background or understanding of the US market, so they hired an experienced VP Sales, US-based, who led a startup to a successful exit and worked afterward in some of the best tech companies. With compensation of almost $300K a year and great recommendations, the founders had high expectations. A few months later, when things didn't move, he explained to them that building these processes takes time, plus he will need to build a small team first. Without them noticing 10 months went by with no deals signed and very limited pipeline - that didn't look promising. After burning valuable time and money they let go of the VP Sales and had to start again from zero with a tight schedule. So what went wrong? Experienced VP Sales are not a good fit for early stage startups - 1. They are not scrappy 2. They no longer feel comfortable doing cold reachout 3. They are too comfortable Your sales hire should fit the stage you are at, and your first sales should be founder-led, to improve your product market fit. Over this past year, we’ve learned anew the strength that we have as a nation. And if you’ve read recent headlines regarding funding rounds and exits of Israeli startups, you will see a clear demonstration of resilience in action. According to a recent report by Startup Nation Central, the Israel tech ecosystem has recently completed: - 220 private investment rounds - An estimated $3.1 billion raised - $3.7 billion in M&A transactions - 20 new venture capital funds were established, raising $1.7 billion And it’s not just internal optimism. A recent poll conducted by the global accounting company Ernst & Young showed that about 60% of multinational companies expressed confidence in the Israeli tech industry. Some might say that what happens in Israel is simply miraculous. I say that it’s because of the resilience, grit, determination, creativity, innovation and perseverance of our people.
