Israeli #founders today need to embrace design thinking This means focusing on the consumer who will be using the service or product that you’re developing The process may have been initially built without thorough consideration, but design thinking allows us to revisit and analyze what exactly is needed in the most efficient way As an example, processes may have been accepted as they are, until someone comes along and suggests a better way... and when that person steps in and proposes a fresh perspective, that's when #innovation happens At its core, design thinking is about understanding what is truly necessary in a process or action, and determining if it can be done differently, and is the ability to understand what the consumer really needs in any given situation or process, whether it's buying groceries, transportation, communication, etc. There are various methods and stages in design thinking. However, I use the Harvard Business School method, which has four stages, the first one being clarification The goal of clarification is to understand and identify the main pain point in the situation. This stage is about filtering out the noise and focusing on the situation at hand, to glean insights that may have been overlooked or undervalued before Often, this pain point is latent, something the consumer experiences but doesn't recognize as the main issue. The methods used at this stage involve observing the situation, being present in the space, and trying to understand what is missing and how the process can be improved The key is to gain a different perspective or insight that others haven't yet identified. If you can solve a problem that everyone is experiencing, then you potentially have a good business idea…. A prime example of the importance of being customer or human-centered, which is at the core of design thinking, is Google's failed Google Glasses project. Google invested about a billion dollars to develop this unique device, but after years of development and attempts to market it, they had to shut it down Why? Because no one was buying it! The product didn't solve a problem for anyone… it was a "nice to have" but not a "must-have" In design thinking, we're looking for solutions to real problems There are three must-have attributes in design thinking to determine if a product is worth investing in: Desirability Feasibility And viability If a product lacks any of these characteristics, it's not a go. These three characteristics are crucial in testing if a product is worth developing and investing time and resources into. Is it shopping season for Israeli technology? The recent surge in M&A activity in Israel is the most significant sign of hope and optimism I’ve seen since October 7th. It demonstrates the potential of Israeli tech and the faith placed in it by top global companies. When technology leaders choose to further expand into Israel and acquire local teams, you know financial outlooks are positive. In cybersecurity - often the poster-child of Israeli tech - we’ve seen five acquisitions in quick succession totaling more than $1Bn. Flow Security by CrowdStrike (~$200M), Avalor Security, a Zscaler Company ($350M), Gem Security (acquired by Wiz) ($350M), Silk Security by Armis ($150M) and Entitle by BeyondTrust (~150M). All are led by exceptional individuals, well done! Perhaps more telling is the emerging AI industry. Last week NVIDIA announced its acquisition of two companies for a combined value of $1Bn. Congratulations RunAI ($700M) and Deci AI ($300M). Mainstream media is so focused on the voices of a racist minority calling for boycotts and divestments that they fail to capture actual news. Antisemites might yell the loudest, but the actions of multinational corporations speak louder than words. I am optimistic about the future. Are you?

Fast-Track Funding Program Israeli Tech Companies Program's Description As a quick response to the challenges tech companies are facing, as a result of the “Iron Swords” war, the Israel Innovation Authority is offering a “Fast Track” funding program to support technological companies and projects. Goal of the incentive program This funding program operates through the Innovation Authority’s R&D fund and is designed for innovative Israeli tech companies with a short runway (up to 6 months) that are in the process of raising capital. Those companies that experience challenges in raising capital due to the situation and in need of bridge funding, are the target of this program. Who is the incentive program for? The fast track is designed for Israeli companies who are in the midst of development/early sales with substantial assets (technologies, unique team, consumers etc). What do you get? The Israeli high-tech sector is strong and will emerge even stronger after the crisis. Institutional investors in Israel must, however, invest more to help the industry. Over the past decade, the high-tech market has proven to be highly profitable, evidenced by numerous mergers and acquisitions. High-tech must be a significant component of investment portfolios. Our role is to revitalize the market. Without the support of institutional investors, it will be challenging to attract foreign investors. Yesterday, I was privileged to speak on the Alternative Investments panel moderated by Roee Bergman from Calcalist כלכליסט at the Future Investments 2024 conference by Calcalist and Migdal Group. Is the Israeli business community truly ready for high-achieving Haredi professionals to take leadership roles in the tech ecosystem? We are, as Safra-Tech’s mission is to integrate Haredi professionals into the tech ecosystem, with a focus on #entrepreneurship and #startups We're not merely asking how we can slot Haredi workers into low-level roles… we're asking a far more ambitious question: How can we make Haredi society a key stakeholder in the tech ecosystem? It’s not about individual Haredi employees entering the tech world… it’s about a shift in Israeli society’s perspective, becoming key influencers and decision-makers, and having the ability to progress, to secure better jobs, and to make a real impact This is a wake-up call, not just for Haredi society, but also for the wider Israeli business community. As an example, the current #VC scene (which drives tech) in Israel is centralized, steeped in a Tel Aviv culture that brings with it its own mindset and politics To effect real change, we need to alter the landscape itself Aside from giving it lip service, does Israeli society truly want integration? Is the business sector ready for Haredi professionals to become C-level executives, managers, and policy influencers? If the answer is no, then we need to ask ourselves why… Why are we content with Haredi employees occupying low-level roles, but not decision-making positions? To catalyze progress, we need outside investors who understand the need for change, who are willing to provide the financial backing necessary to make this vision a reality. This cannot be left to the same players who have dominated the scene so far. 2023 was a tough year for Israeli startups. After a few slow quarters, the Israeli startup ecosystem is starting to show signs of recovery and stability. According to the latest tech review for Q1 2024 (by LeumiTech and IVC Data and Insights): - Israeli startups raised $1.74 billion in Q1 2024, just 1% below Q1 2023 - Q1 2024 had more seed rounds than each of the 3 previous quarters in 2023 - Cyber dominated in M&A and large rounds Link to the my post (and the report) in the first comment 👇

Fundraising is the number one focus for Israeli #founders. In taking feedback from my recent survey, https://lnkd.in/efvpYYCT, fundraising seems to be what most founders are focused on this quarter. The beginning of 2024 has been much more active on the #VC side, and the market seems to have stabilized. This is good news for many CEOs who have delayed #fundraising to the point where they have more to show… and where the timing feels more “right”. Yet, navigating the world of fundraising for early-stage Israeli startups in today's economic climate is a challenging endeavor. Rounds take longer to close. #Investors look for more data points. Relationship-building between founders and investors is a real thing again. Here are some points to keep in mind as you get ready to raise your next round: Get your story right - Seriously. I see many founders creating complicated decks and diving into unnecessary details. Make it simple... investors are flooded with decks, emails, texts, and phone calls. Getting the story right, and grabbing their attention is a good place to start, no matter the stage of the company. Leverage your network - The importance of a strong network cannot be overstated, especially now. Reach out to your current investors, advisors, and strong connections for advice, warm intros, and potential funding opportunities. Many of them cannot just open doors, but follow-up with their contacts after the connection is made. Backchanneling is one of the most underestimated elements of fundraising. Do your research - Don’t just ask for an intro to fund X, Y, or Z. Which partner in the firm is most interested in your space? How many investments have they made in the past 12 months? Does the fund have fresh capital or is it towards the end of their investment period? These are all important things to know before asking for an intro or meeting with VCs. Resilience is paramount - Fundraising can be a long and difficult process, but resilience and adaptability are key. Keep refining your pitch and keep your eye on the ball. Eventually, a lot of it is about consistency, and not giving up.  Remember, fundraising is a marathon, not a sprint. Stay positive, stay focused, stay connected, and keep your energies high. As we’re deep into Q2, many funds are looking for interesting opportunities and startups to invest in.
