Recently, I encountered an Insecure Direct Object Reference (IDOR) issue on a utility company’s website, allowing access to other users’ information by simply adjusting a URL parameter. Thanks to the quick action from the company after I reported it, the vulnerability was patched right away. A special thank you to Ran Bar-Zik for publishing the story and helping to bring attention to the importance of strong access control in data security. Since October 7, Israeli tech companies have really stepped up in some impressive ways, demonstrating resilience and innovation in the face of adversity. Today we decided to share some impactful initiatives: * Cybersecurity Boost With everyone on high alert, companies like Check Point Software Point and CyberArk have offered free trials of their cybersecurity tools to help protect important systems. They've been working hand in hand with the police to tighten up national security. * Mental Health Support Understanding the emotional toll, platforms like Myndlift and Telesofia Medical have expanded their telehealth services. They’re making online therapy more accessible so that anyone can find the mental health support they need during this tough time. * Aid and Relief Apps Startups have created apps that connect volunteers with local organizations that need help. Companies like Wix and Fiverr are making it super easy for people to pitch in and lend a hand. * Backing Local Businesses Apps like Buy Local have been developed to help consumers discover and support nearby shops, fostering a sense of community resilience. Venture capital firms and fintech companies established funds to provide low-interest loans and financial guidance to struggling businesses. OurCrowd launched initiatives to help local entrepreneurs secure funding more easily. * Community Building Networking groups are gathering to share resources and brainstorm recovery strategies. Organizations like Startup Nation Central and TechAviv are creating spaces for people to come together and discuss how to support one another. As we approach one year, the Israeli tech scene continues to come together to support each other and their communities. It’s amazing to see how they’re using their skills and resources to make a difference during such challenging times! #bringthemhome

The recent #CyberWeek was an excellent opportunity to reconnect with colleagues while making new and exciting connections. Despite ongoing concerns, the steady recovery and increased investments in Israel are very encouraging. In H1 2024, Israeli #Cyber startups raised an impressive $2.9B, marking a 53% increase from the same period in 2023. This surge, coupled with the highest number of #exits since 2021, underscores a positive trend in the #Cybersecurity industry. Adding to this is Gartner's Attack Surface Management (ASM) report: "By 2028, investments in proactive technologies that improve visibility and reduce exposure will grow twice as fast as investments in reactive technologies that detect and respond to incidents". According to the latest Morgan Stanley CIO survey, cloud computing remains a top priority, while #Gartner predicts a significant increase in spending on data privacy and vulnerability assessment in 2024. At KTrust, an Israeli cybersecurity company, we focus on #proactive technology, integrated security solutions, and ongoing threat exposure for the #Kubernetes ecosystem. These developments inspire me to move forward with even greater enthusiasm and dedication.

Take a look at this picture. It was taken today at our Salesforce offices in Tel-Aviv. It shows a few dozens of Salesforce Israel employees in one of our regular all-hands meetings. What's so special about that? Well, that picture was taken exactly 36 hours after Iran launched a massive aerial strike against Israel with 100s of UCAVs, ballistic and cruise missiles carrying about 60 tons(!) of explosives. Thanks to the Israeli Air force, the air forces of the US, UK, France, Jordan and others *and* Israeli innovation and engineering talent who developed the most advanced multi-layered air defense systems in the world - luckily that attack ended up with relatively low impact. It was a sleepless night for all us in Israel who got an advanced notice of the attack and basically spent that night bracing for impact. Now take another look at this picture. 36 hours later - People showing up at the office, talking to each other, having a few laughs, having meetings, discussing deadlines, solving business problems, discussing engineering problems, doing demos, having coffee and lunch together, having an all-hands meeting together. 36 hours ago we were bracing for impact of 60 tons of explosives that were about to fall out of the sky. Are IT Service Companies Overlooking the Importance of SOC2 Compliance? As we grow as a company, we identified the need to expand our IT operations. After searching for the right IT service company in Israel to support our SOC2 and ISO27001 compliant SaaS business for quite some time, I’ve been surprised to discover that none of the IT providers I’ve encountered are SOC2 compliant. Even more frustrating - many believe they don’t need to be, nor do some of the leading auditors. Here’s what they’re saying: 🔸"We only provide the brainpower" - They argue SOC2 applies to infrastructure or product providers, not IT professionals. 🔸"We use your tools" - Since they’re working with (our) SOC2-compliant systems, they don’t see a problem. 🔸 "We don’t access your data" - They claim they don’t handle sensitive information directly. But here’s where I’m struggling: Our SaaS platform is handling sensitive financial data and our customers rely on its security, resilience and accuracy for their day to day work and financial outcome. As such, we are obligated to ensure that third-party providers affecting our systems meet similar security standards. Even if those IT companies don’t directly access our data, they manage access to critical systems, support infrastructure, and can influence our overall security posture. SOC2 helps us and our customers to validate that they meet those standards. Now I’m wondering: is this a challenge unique to Israel, or are IT service providers around the world also not being held to SOC2 standards? #SOC2 #Compliance #ITSecurity #RiskManagement #Tech #CyberSecurity #SaaS #ISO27001 #ITServices
