🌍 Today is International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a day to honor the dignity, rights, and achievements of people with disabilities. This year’s theme, “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future,” is at the core of what we do at Beit Issie Shapiro. Our Leadership Center is a space where people with disabilities are empowered to lead, advocate, and inspire change. By amplifying their voices, we’re building a future that is not only inclusive but sustainable for everyone. This International Day of Persons with Disabilities, let’s: ☝ Champion leadership for all. 🤝 Foster inclusion in every part of society. 👏 Celebrate the abilities of people with disabilities. Leadership is the key to a better world—and at Beit Issie Shapiro, we’re proud to support leaders who are shaping the future. 💙 #IDPD #InternationalDayofPersonsWithDisabilities #PeopleWithDisabilities

This week our Special Education School held a important activity to mark the 29th anniversary of the assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin. The children and some of the professional team were not born on that day that shocked all of us and changed Israel forever. But despite the time that has passed, the way we talk to eachother, the way we agree to disagree remains so important! The team led the children through a process to learn about Yitzchak Rabin, the disagreements at the time and to explore together how we build a social covenant. Everyone shared their ideas for what that might look like in their school. For an organization like Beit Issie that works to build a more inclusive society and that celebrates differences and people of all abilities, the lessons that should be learned from that tragic day 29 years ago are so important for us and still as real and crucial as they were in 1995.

Yes, there were rocket sirens this morning in Ra'anana and other areas. Yes, by now, everyone knows that. But here’s something you may not know. ⬇️ Just moments before this photo was taken, Daniel and Shuli were in the middle of his hydrotherapy session when the sirens went off. Shuli had only 90 seconds to lift Daniel out of the pool and get him to safe place. With no time to grab a towel for herself, she wrapped Daniel in one, carried him, ran barefoot and soaking wet to the shelter. A few minutes later, someone finally brought a towel for Shuli. At the same time, Elena, one of our dedicated volunteers, arrived to check on Daniel after looking for him for a few minutes, offering him comfort and reassurance as the sirens and booms echoed around them. What you see in this picture is a shelter during a rocket attack. What you don’t see is the extraordinary dedication it takes to protect each other—especially those with disabilities. This is what living under fire looks like. But it’s also what it looks like when children like Daniel are surrounded by people who stand together as a family, committed to every child’s physical and emotional well-being, no matter what. #Israelunderattack #peoplewithdisabilities #childrenwithdisabilities #mentalhealth

BREAK THE STIGMA It's okay not to be okay all the time 😌☹️😖😁 At Beit Issie Shapiro, we believe that taking care of mental health is just as important as physical #health—especially for people with #disabilities, who experience five times more emotional distress than the general population. ⭐Just how important? Well.. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 🧠For decades, Beit Issie Shapiro has been developing and providing mental health services for individuals with physical, intellectual, and learning disabilities, as well as their families. Today, we offer a range of services including dyadic parent-child therapy, psychotherapy, play and art therapy, couples’ therapy, group therapy, and parental guidance. Our Dual Diagnosis Unit, which supports individuals with intellectual disabilities coping with psychiatric disorders, is recognized by Israel’s Ministry of Health as a Mental Health Clinic provider. 👶🏻In 2023, we documented the first evidence-based model of early childhood emotional intervention for toddlers with disabilities and their families. 🏠And very, very soon we will announce the opening of our National Mental Health and Resilience Center for People with Disabilities, the first of its kind in #Israel. This new facility will provide specialized #emotionaltherapy, #trauma care, and #resilience support to individuals and families across Israel. Given the recent challenges, the need for these services has never been more urgent. 🤯And remember: it’s okay not to be okay all the time - prioritize your #mentalhealth #worldmentalhealthday
