Renewed commitment to resolving the obstacles facing the renewable energy sector is essential from the top down in Ireland. Grid constraints and planning delays lead to timelines of up to 10 years, from initial stages to delivery, for onshore wind developments to get up and running.   If we don’t look at the issues that cause such delays, investors will not look at Ireland as a place to do business – but with the right will in place, we can turn this around. 🌍 Stepping across borders: Supporting Italy's climate targets with Adriatic Link Siemens Energy continues to support Italy’s ambitions of reaching net-zero targets by contributing to the expansion of the grid via our recent #HVDC contract win of #AdriaticLink. We have secured a contract to provide technical equipment and the turnkey supply of the two converter stations for Adriatic Link, a major energy infrastructure project in Italy from our partner Terna SpA. Supplied with our state-of-the-art HVDC PLUS technology, the 250 km long connection will enable the exchange of up to 1,000 MW of energy between the north and south of Italy, and thus will strengthen the stability and security of the grid. ⚡ As Italy aims to meet its 2030 climate targets, including a 55% reduction in emissions, Adriatic Link will be important in supporting the nation's renewable energy goals. With the growing share of #renewables in Italy's electricity generation, this project will support the efficient integration of these energy sources. Drax sells 90,000 SME customers to EDF Energy - These customer meter points were originally acquired by Drax Group, as part of its purchase of Opus Energy in 2017, a transaction valued at £340 million. In its announcement to the London Stock Exchange, Drax noted that various other segments of the Opus business have been integrated into its core industrial and commercial (I&C) energy supply operations over the past seven years. This includes the renewables business, which manages the group’s power purchase agreements (PPAs) with renewable energy producers, alongside other specified components. Drax sees these actions as reinforcing its commitment to reducing carbon dioxide emissions and advancing its Energy Solutions (Customers) division, which focuses on industrial and commercial clients, renewable energy and energy services. The group confirmed that its Energy Solutions segment will remain unaltered by the sale of Opus SME assets and the group’s expectations for Energy Solutions earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) remain unchanged following this transaction. https://lnkd.in/eePcCQXe

Ireland's journey to a cleaner energy future has taken a step forward with the release of Pathway to a Net Zero Carbon Network.​ This ambitious plan outlines our vision to transform Ireland's gas network and achieve a net-zero energy system in Ireland by 2050.​ Delivering this potential will require collaboration across a broad range of stakeholders including energy producers, policy makers, regulators, standard authorities, and end users. We will continue to work closely with these industry partners to ensure that the injection and transportation of biomethane and green hydrogen will be completed safely and reliably for all our customers.​ We also have people across our organisation working hard in preparation for the transportation of green hydrogen in Ireland. The ‘Electricity Storage Policy Framework’ published in July 2024 requires the System Operators, EirGrid and ESBN, to put in place procurement frameworks to deliver sufficient LDES on the system over the coming decade. NATIONAL GRID LAUNCHES GREAT GRID PARTNERSHIP The UK's National Grid has unveiled a groundbreaking "enterprise model" to deliver critical electricity transmission projects. The "Great Grid Partnership" brings together seven key supply chain partners to coordinate the planning and execution of nine major ASTI initiatives across England and Wales by 2030. This collaborative approach aims to pool resources, skills and expertise to drive faster, more cost-effective delivery - benefiting consumers and local communities. The seven partners include design, consenting and construction firms with proven track records in large-scale project delivery. Responding to surging global demand for energy transition products and services, the partnership represents National Grid's innovative solution to UK supply chain and skills challenges. By fostering collaboration, the model is set to not only support the 50 GW offshore wind target, but also deliver lasting opportunities beyond the initial £4.5 billion ASTI framework. 💰 The national grid needs £60 billion of investment but has less than 10% of the capital needed to fund it. Making grid-scale changes is a slow process too 🐌 Our Managing Director, Bruce Woodman, has shared his thoughts on the need to address this shortfall with Energy Now, along with a shopping list of other important ‘pro-renewables’ policies that would be essential to support the transition to net zero:  💨 An end to the de facto ban on new turbines in England   ⚡️ Restructuring the requirements on the Electricity System Operators (#ESO) and Distribution Network Operators (#DNO)  💧 Setting national standards for the development of renewables-to-hydrogen projects Although new policies would be helpful, businesses don’t need to wait for policy change to make a difference to their own energy and emissions. 🌍 Successful Collaboration to Ensure Grid Security in Ireland 🌍 The transition to renewable energy is progressing on the Emerald Isle. To ensure grid security during this transition phase, the operational life of the Moneypoint power plant has been extended. This power plant plays a key role in the "Green Atlantic @Moneypoint" project and will form the basis for Ireland's wind energy and hydrogen supply in the future. 🔧 In a tender process, KSB prevailed and contributes the following to Moneypoint: ✅ Retrofit Contract: KSB won the largest retrofit contract in the history of the Bremen plant. ✅ New Pumps: Order of two Super Duplex new pumps as replacement units. ✅ Emergency Repair: Successful emergency repair of an installed pump on-site thanks to KSB Express Parts. 💬 "We are very pleased to be able to apply a wide range of our services simultaneously in this project," says Sebastian Behrends from our KSB plant in Bremen. The operator ESB has already commissioned KSB to provide spare parts packages for upcoming overhauls of their cooling water pumps at other power plants on Ireland's east coast. #KSB #KSBBremen #Moneypoint #Ireland
