Immersive Technology Apprenticeship Survey. Mayo, Sligo & Leitrim Education and Training Board (MSLETB) is proposing the development of a Level 6 Immersive Technology Apprenticeship intended to serve multiple industries. Immersive Technologies, in this instance, are considered to be digital technologies such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and extended reality (XR), that allow users to experience and engage with simulated environments for various purposes, including education and training, leisure, and gaming. It’s planned that this will be available as a 2-year full-time programme and will be delivered through a blend of work-based learning, online, and face-to-face classes. It is intended that on completion of the programme, the graduates would have the knowledge, skills, and competencies to work in an immersive technology environment. MSLETB is eager to obtain input from the industry and other stakeholders, which will inform the development of this programme. Today, I had the pleasure of attending an insightful session led by Ashleigh Forster, Principal Business Analyst at Codec in Dublin, titled "Age is Just a Number: Unpacking Business Analysis Progression." The session began with a powerful quote from Theodore Roosevelt: "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." Here are some key takeaways that I found particularly valuable: 1. Optimizing Communication: Ashleigh emphasized the importance of streamlining communication channels within a company. She improved efficiency and clarity by reducing the number of platforms to just Teams and email. This taught me to always look for ways to optimize and simplify processes within my own work environment. 2. Active Listening: Listening to stakeholders before voicing your own ideas is crucial. Ashleigh’s advice to practice this skill reinforced the importance of understanding all perspectives to make well-informed decisions. Tools like Miro for taking meeting notes can help keep conversations focused and productive. 3. Networking: Building a strong professional network is essential. Whether through LinkedIn or attending industry events, networking opens doors to new opportunities and insights. This session encouraged me to be more proactive in expanding my professional connections. 4. Project Phases and Team Collaboration: The early stages of a project can be overwhelming, with multiple responsibilities from analysis to QA. Being willing to help teammates and engaging in leadership activities, like joining CSR committees, can make a significant impact. Additionally, shadowing managers in the office provides invaluable learning opportunities. 5. Career Path Identification: It’s important to decide whether you want to pursue a role as a people manager or specialize as an individual contributor in areas like Agile or CRM implementation. Understanding whether you thrive in a startup environment or prefer the structure of a large organization can guide your career decisions. 6. Seeking Feedback: Asking colleagues for feedback on what they admire about you, your strengths, areas for improvement, and what makes you unique can provide crucial insights for personal growth. Ashleigh’s advice to regularly seek this feedback has inspired me to implement it in my own professional development. A big thank you to Sophie Chen for organizing this enlightening online meetup. The Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC) tasked Aurion Learning with enhancing Irish public sector staff's understanding of equality and human rights. Working collaboratively, we helped IHREC develop a custom learning solution that included a learning portal and a custom eLearning programme using the Aurion High5 design framework. The solution includes multi-modal features such as audio descriptions and Irish Sign Language (ISL) on-screen overlays, ensuring a high level of accessibility, engagement, knowledge retention, scalability and real-world applicability. As General Election 2024 gets underway, PEMI - Professional Educators and Managers Ireland calls on all political parties to: Formally recognise ECEC as a profession in its own right (not childcare and early learning, not an industry, a sector or a business) - Formally recognise ECEC as an integral aspect of the Educational Continuum - Address Recruitment and Retention as a matter of urgency.
