Thanks to Ibec for organising the IBEC Mid West HR Forum in Limerick yesterday. It was a highly informative event with valuable insights on current HR challenges and legislations. Special thanks to the speakers and panellists; Fiona Higgins Keevagh Heverin Vicky O'Neill Sinead Mullins Liam Linehan. MBA, FCIPD. There were many takeaways from the event, including: 1. Engagement Levels: A recent Gallup Survey highlighted the importance of focusing on engagement improvements within businesses in Ireland. 2. Human Energy Crisis: A Mercer 2023 report indicates an increase in burnout rates, emphasising the need for enhanced wellbeing initiatives and supports. 3. Employee Value Proposition: Employers need to evaluate their benefits: pay, pensions, wellbeing, flexible work options, and actively listen to employee feedback. 4. Untapped Recruitment Markets: Identify and leverage untapped recruitment markets such as people on careers or disability leave. 5. Change: Be agile, adaptive and collaborative. If you strive for perfection other businesses will pass you out.

It was great to learn more about the FoReSight Framework https://lnkd.in/e4gTj5yZ and it shows how collaborative efforts across industry, academia and with crucial regulatory (HPRA) review can lead the way to better patient outcomes and reliable decision making. I'm sure there will be plenty more questions on the Framework and how it responds to emerging digital technologies.

€77,305 per year. That is how much your vote is worth today. The Irish government will spend on average 144.34 billion euro per year over the next 5 years. We have 3,438,566 registered voters, and an average voter turn out of 54.30%. The candidate you elect today to represent you will have a direct influence on what that money is spent on. So each vote has the ability to influence on average €77k. The Irish political system is one of the most democratic in the world. It is far more resistant to strategic voting, gerrymandering, or the spoiler effect than the system used in the likes of the UK or US or Canada. It give us proportionally more voice than voters in other nations. We also have a broadly even distribution of TDs to population in each constituency. Third parties and independents have as much viability as any major party. In June, Kildare was the last local constituency to finish their count. Just 2 votes separated the candidates at one point. It's been four years since I implemented a full refit of my business. Jumping on an opportunity, I used technology to increase output and patient safety, leading to a 50% increase in business growth. The post scale return on investment (ROI) was 6 months. Now, I'm using another opportunity to add an additional 32m² to the business and create a new full refit. This one will be half the budget, an immeasurable more hours in qualitative research and a post scale ROI of 48 months. Why am I doing it so? The reason is that even though the organisation has always been customer centric, with safety being a priority, I made decisions from my own eyes. This time, I'm only using the viewpoint of my team and my customers. There are no decisions made only on traditional profit based metrics. Every step is for the team and the customer. Empowerment has been key to this, in particular to enabling my team to deliver the best promise we can. Quick sales are out, internal marketing and customer driven innovations are in. I owe a big thank you to UCD Professional Academy and in particular to Joe Wilde and my fellow students who advised me alongside my journey - such as a brainstorming chat from Geraldine Penney and Amy Millar to open my eyes to my biggest advantage right in front of me. As always, a big thank you to Laura Garrett, Kim Flanagan and Derek McHugh for all their help. And of course, the best team a business owner could ask for, especially my rocks Eve Brennan and Aoife O’Keeffe. Together, we're going to take the experience an established brand brings and combine it with the latest CX and technological advances along with customer centric information to create a brand the country hasn't seen.

It is expected that the company will begin to make staff redundant from the middle of June 2028, with the last workers leaving in December. "Declining demand has resulted in underutilization of our production capacities," a spokesperson for the business said. In 2020, Viatris announced the closure of a plant in Baldoyle with the loss of 440 jobs. Dana Kendall has been appointed as general manager of the Irish arm of AbbVie, the American biopharma giant. The Texas native and former international marketing director will lead AbbVie Ireland, which employs 2,900 people across five sites in Sligo, Mayo, Cork, and Dublin, from its headquarters in Citywest. Hovione, an international pharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO), officially commissioned an expansion at its manufacturing facility in Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork.   The multi-million euro investment almost doubles the capacity of Hovione’s spray drying facilities in Ireland and will create more than 20 new positions. This latest investment reinforces Hovione’s position as the global leader in spray drying for pharma applications. This manufacturing technology is especially important for inhalable therapies and oral medications with low bioavailability, enabling more effective treatments. By improving how medicines work in the body, spray drying plays a crucial role in delivering reliable, high-quality healthcare solutions that make a real difference in patients’ lives.   Deputising for the Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Audrey Buckley said: “I am delighted to welcome this very significant investment and the creation of further highly skilled jobs in Cork today. It reinforces Hovione’s commitment to the region and the innovative solutions it provides to the pharmaceutical industry in Ireland.”   Michael McGrath, the European Commissioner-Designate for Democracy, Justice and the Rule of Law said: “This latest investment highlights the success of Hovione’s facility in Ringaskiddy, and underlines the continued resilience of Ireland’s pharmaceutical manufacturing sector. 👏 What a week for Cork! – Eli Lilly unveils new $800m facility This additional investment in Cork is part of the most ambitious manufacturing expansion agenda in the company’s history. Since 2020, Eli Lilly and Company has committed more than $20 billion to build, expand and acquire manufacturing facilities. Delighted to have completed another excellent course with UCD, on the very interesting and rapidly evolving area of Artificial Intelligence. Can't wait to see what the world looks like in 5 years with this technology (and all the interesting dilemmas it will pose for Business and Society). Now what course to pick next :)
