AI is and will undoubtedly continue to increase recruiter efficiency, but what impact is it having on the job market and how recruiters match candidates to roles? I was invited to the LinkedIn offices in Dublin to look at how AI is impacting hiring trends, marketing, brand building, measurement and trust. As well as getting a look at their AI roadmap. What really stood out was the evolution of skills-based searching – not a new thing by any stretch, especially in the temp sector, but an accelerated change across some industries. As Gen AI continues to gather momentum and impacts more of our workflows and activities, it’s clear that a huge number of jobs will change over the next 3-5 years. For example, a marketer’s role will always require candidates to have the fundamental soft skills like intuition and empathy that enable them to do the job. However, advancements in AI mean that soft skills like storytelling and creativity, that would have been required 2 years ago, may be less relevant today. These activities can now be assisted by AI, meaning previous experience becomes less relevant and new hard skills such as LLM management and prompt generation become more relevant. In fact, according to the data, in the last 3 years there has been a 50% increase in the number of recruiters utilising skills-based searching as a result of AI advancements. The sweet spot will be in finding a blend between experience and skill searching as AI continues to change the way we all work.

Recruiters in my network! I read an article on RTE. ie that highlighted something we don’t often talk about. With employment at an all time high and time to hire increasing, the pressure on recruiters is mounting. What was refreshing about this article was its focus on the high potential for recruiters to experience burnout & if you have not experienced this personally, no doubt you have seen it! It’s not just jobseekers feeling the stress, recruiters are navigating a competitive market, tighter timelines, and higher expectations. WFH vs Hybrid vs Fully Onsite – Pros & Cons. The debate continues around the advantages & disadvantages of Fully Remote Working vs Hybrid (2-3 days office) vs Fully Onsite for Irish based Tech employees. As a recruiter I constantly get asked what the policy in other Tech companies is or which way is the market leaning. Interestingly in KPMG’s 10th annual CEO Outlook survey - 90% of Irish CEOs believe there will be a return to pre-pandemic ways of working in the office within the next three years. For some employees that might be a scary prospect. We are also hearing of reports that some of the larger Tech companies based in Ireland are bringing in fully onsite working policies now. Nearly one in five businesses use AI alone to develop job adverts.
