Norse Atlantic Airways
Norse Atlantic Reports Load Factor Of 83 Per Cent In July The month saw an average load factor of 83 per cent, representing a decrease of two percentage points (p.p.) year on year. During July, Norse Atlantic Airways had 176,934 passengers, representing an increase of 17 per cent across 639 flights compared to a year earlier, including nine charters operated during the month. 73 per cent of flights arrived within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival time with a completion rate of 98 per cent. “Load factor in July was adversely impacted by both the Olympic games and the Crowdstrike IT global outage. However, we have seen positive forward bookings trends for August in general as demand for summer travel is later compared to the same period a year earlier. Norse Atlantic passengers experienced some cancellations as a direct result of the Crowdstrike IT incident and I would to thank our passengers for their patience during this extraordinary event. I am pleased to report that despite the traditionally more challenging operational environment during the summer months we have continued to improve our year-on-year punctuality performance.,” said Bjorn Tore Larsen, CEO and Founder Norse Atlantic Airways. Key traffic figures for July are attached.

Demurrage charges undermine decarbonisation of shipping The ability of container carriers to impose high demurrage charges on shippers is holding back progress in solving one of shipping’s biggest problems: the “hurry up and wait” scenario, where container ships increase speed to meet schedules, only to end up anchored outside their destination port waiting for a berth. Some estimates conclude that this is increasing CO2 emissions from container shipping by 15%. Finland’s Napa has attempted to address the problem with its new smart shipping project called Napa Studio, commenting that “the problem is that carriers have the option to impose demurrage and detention charges that can be far in excess of the fuel efficiencies that can be gained from smart shipping. #shippingcontainer #demurrage #oceancarrier #foreigntrade #supplychain #decarbonisation https://lnkd.in/dWYeUDQy

Congestion and delays faced by truck drivers in the Black Sea Economic Cooperation region are being exacerbated by increased traffic from geopolitical diversions, according to the IRU. Freight volumes along the middle corridor from China to Europe surpassed 1.6m tonnes between January and August last year. This was an 84% increase on the same period in 2022. Radu Dinescu explained: “The drastic re-direction of cargo flows has put a lot of pressure on borders in the BSEC region. In 2024, corridors crossing the region became even more important for international goods transport.” And he outlined key steps to combat border issues and optimise trade in the region. After a short summer hiatus, Michael King returns with The Loadstar podcast. Mike and his guests analyse the ongoing bidding war for DB Schenker, the increasing demand and rate spikes for Asia-Europe rail freight and the impact of union disputes on logistics operations in Canada, Germany, the US and India. They also discuss the reasons behind soaring air freight rates ahead of the traditional peak season, examine new US air cargo security rules and explore the alarming threat posed to EU freight companies by incendiary devices. In Part 2, attention turns to port operations, exploring how ports might enhance supply chain transparency and reduce risks for shippers. Representatives from Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) Anstalt öffentlichen Rechts and IKEA discuss the role of ports in managing data, fostering collaboration and improving cargo traceability. Many thanks to Ingrid Boqué Sastre, global strategic networks officer, Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) Anstalt öffentlichen Rechts Stefan Krattiger, business development leader global ports, supply chain operations, IKEA Niall van de Wouw, chief airfreight officer, Xeneta

Military logistics in the spot
The backbone of defence: Why logistics is more important than ever When we think of military might, it's easy to imagine powerful tanks, sophisticated fighter planes and well-trained soldiers. But there is an unsung hero that is often overlooked: logistics. This behind-the-scenes powerhouse forms the backbone of credible deterrence and defence, ensuring that all these formidable assets are in the right place at the right time. In today's world, the importance of logistics to military planning and operations has become even more apparent. With changing global dynamics and emerging threats, NATO's ability to move troops and equipment quickly and efficiently has never been more important. Imagine trying to play a game of chess without being able to move your pieces effectively - it wouldn't matter how strong your pieces are if they can't get where they need to be. Logistics is all about preparation and precision. It's the strategic planning that ensures troops have the supplies they need, that vehicles are fuelled and ready to go, and that lines of communication are open and secure. It is the intricate dance of coordination that enables rapid deployment, whether as a deterrent or in response to an emergency. In essence, logistics is the lifeline that keeps the military agile and responsive. Without it, even the strongest armed forces would struggle to deter an attack or mount a defence. In an increasingly complex security landscape, logistics will increasingly come under the spotlight, emphasising its crucial role in maintaining peace and stability. So the next time you see a military convoy on the move or hear about the redeployment of troops, think about the incredible logistical efforts that make it all possible. In the grand chess game of global security, logistics is the master move that ensures every piece can play its part.

Reporting of vessel arrival, vessel entry, and manifest updates (such as updating the port of unlading, associated entries, and in-bond movement, if applicable) will continue to be required of vessels arriving at impacted ports. All other applicable legal requirements, such as those under the Jones Act (46 U.S.C. § 55102), will continue to be in effect. #portstrike #cargounlading #supplychaindisruption #workarounds #alternativeroutes https://lnkd.in/gmg6zy8p
