Osborne are in the process of curating the next installment of our comprehensive Quarterly Business Intelligence Survey for Q3 across the island of Ireland. A full report with all of our findings will be shared once again with all participants and will be discussed in more detail at our in-person events held in our offices over October. This report is designed to give people leaders access to some crucial information they will need in terms of workforce planning, staff engagement and issues facing business owners within your region and sector.    We need your input and are very interested in hearing your thoughts and opinions on the current employment climate and the key issues that are impacting your day-to-day business. We are also particularly interested in the potential challenges you foresee affecting the growth and development of your business in the future. With 4 out of 10 (40%) Irish respondents reporting that they are likely to switch employer in the next 12 months (Global: 44%), it's fair to say that employee retention strategies must remain a crucial focus for organisations. While we still face many challenges across a lot of sectors, it's positive to see an overall small increase in GDP for the start of 2024. The overall outlook for the Irish economy looks positive, with expected stable growth driven by both the domestic and traded sectors. We have known for some time that the cost of doing business is the biggest issue for @Ibec members. There is now more urgency than ever for Ireland and the EU to address many long-standing competitiveness challenges and to take immediate measures to support productivity and business viability. #GE24 must have the competitiveness agenda to the fore. We need to see tangible and practical policy proposals that will support a prosperous enterprise environment and ensure that businesses across the country can continue to contribute effectively to the social and economic fabric of our communities. Ibec members are telling us that energy costs must be addressed and the approach to regulation improved and labour costs must be moderated. In addition, we need to up our game on research and innovation and ensure that our income tax system supports workers and enterprise. 📈 85% of surveyed respondents agree that the chance to learn new skills influences their decision to stay with their current employer or move to another job. According to a recent PwC Hopes and Fears report, employees are placing increasing importance on upskilling and learning opportunities, understanding the long-term impact on their careers. Business leaders need to invest in continuous learning, provide access to relevant and up-to-date training resources, and collaborate with educational institutions and industry experts. In the most recent Cork Chamber Quarterly Economic Trend report, there have been strong improvements in employment data. 36% of businesses that took part recorded increased employee numbers, up 12% compared to Q1. And those that experienced a decrease in employee numbers has declined from 15% in Q1 to 10% in Q2. 54% reported that employee numbers remained the same over Q2. The report also highlighted that out of the 47% of participants that have opportunities advertised, 42% are finding it difficult to fill them, with specialist skills shortages being the top barrier. This is very much in line with what we are seeing in the Accounting and Finance sector here in Barden.
