Transversal skills: Skills that can be used in a wide variety of situations in life and in work. Leadership/Project Management/Problem Solving/Critical Thinking/Commercial Acumen/Communication/Strategic Thinking/Stakeholder Management On Thursday 27th June, I had the pleasure of attending the launch of "Talent to Thrive: The Future Skills Report for Irelands Medtech Sector", excellently compiled by Ann O'Connell & Team. The term "Transversal Skills" indeed resonated, and it was refreshing to see these mentioned as a fundamental requirement, as the MedTech Sector looks to continue its growth trajectory. I would contend that these "Transversal Skills" are a critical enabler not just limited to Medtech, but a necessity to be upskilled as Organizations continue to navigate this now normalized VUCA environment. (Volatile / Uncertain / Complex / Ambiguous) These skills, I believe, are of particular importance to the Supply Chain community, who have to understand the full End 2 End Value Chain, from Supplier (not just Tier 1 but multi-tiers) all the way to End Customer... Also, a special shout out to fellow Tipperary Man Liam Sheedy - who along with Caroline Currid, provided an insightful look into High Performance, touching on the Transversal Skillset, consistent standards, intelligent recovery and deep connection. It's exciting to see our work showcased as a poster at the Irish Manufacturing Research members network event today! We're collaborating with Saleem Jahangeer from St James's Hospital Dublin to develop surgical pre-planning aortic models for aneurysms and dissection cases. This project is part of an ethically approved clinical evaluation aimed at demonstrating efficacy and workflow approval of pre surgical anatomical models within the Health Service Executive. 🌟 Where MedTech Innovation Begins 🌟 In 2016/17, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in the BioInnovate Ireland fellowship—an experience that not only transformed my career but also laid the foundation for what would become InVera Medical. Our team explored unmet needs in vascular surgery, head to toe, before identifying one of the most overlooked and impactful areas in healthcare: to provide - a less-invasive treatment for sufferers of chronic venous disease symptoms such as varicose veins and venous leg ulcers. Delighted to see Abbott has officially opened a new manufacturing facility to produce diabetes technology in Kilkenny. The new site will employ more than 800 people and is part of the €440 million investment Abbott is making across its two sites in Ireland. This investment also includes the expansion of Abbott's Donegal site where a further 200 jobs are being created.
