NWC welcomes the funding for the Cervical Cancer Elimination Plan. This investment will focus on improving HPV vaccination rates, cervical screening, and early treatment, with a key measure being a pilot programme to increase HPV vaccination rates in underserved communities, including Traveller, Roma, and migrant women. This is a vital step towards health equity, ensuring that all women have access to life-saving prevention and treatment. Stark statistics released today from the CSO on enforced deprivation for 2024 Households who are unable to afford some basic goods and services, including heating, clothing, social participation and food. While there is some decrease in the overall figures over last year, the levels of enforced deprivation described are still too high, a stark reminder of how the cost-of-living crisis is impacting women across the country – and how it is hitting marginalised groups of women even harder. • Nearly half (44.5%) of lone parent households with children under 18 are living in enforced deprivation, while nearly three-quarters (73%) experienced difficulty in making ends meet – and 86% of lone parents are women • Nearly 40% (38.5%) of people who aren’t able to work due to long standing health problems are living in enforced deprivation • People living in rental accommodation are nearly four times more likely to be in enforced deprivation than people who own the home they live in Urgent action needs to be taken to tackle deprivation, poverty and gender inequality, including targeting supports for marginalised women. We set out some key measures the new Government needs to prioritise and take in our Feminist Analysis of the Programme for Government: https://lght.ly/lcakmcn Read the full findings here: https://lght.ly/mh7i1fk

“Eighty-nine per cent of people in Ireland agree that sporting organisations have an important role to play in combatting gender-based inequality and violence in society.” New research highlights the urgent need for the Game Changer programme, as 41% of women aged 18-34 in Ireland have faced harassment or intimidation in sports. The Game Changer initiative is vital, exposing a gender divide in awareness that must be addressed through education Read more here: https://lght.ly/he1g6o2 #EndVaw @Cuan @LadiesGaelicFootballAssociation

“Despite the surge in demand for green skills however, LinkedIn reports that younger people & women still find themselves locked out of the green job market” Green jobs are expanding beyond technical fields, yet systemic biases still exclude many women from these opportunities. While the rise of green employment is promising, a more inclusive definition of green jobs is crucial to advancing gender equality and ensuring sustainability is truly impactful. “Nearly every second adult in countries across the world thinks it is job done on female equality, which it patently is not.” Despite small improvements in global attitudes, gender equality remains far from achieved, with regressive views, widening gender divides, and ongoing systemic disparities threatening progress. Progress must be actively defended and pursued, as the fight for gender equality is far from done. Read more: https://lght.ly/17pcg8a #GenderEquality
