Great to have such a proactive fiscal approach in these times. Thanks for the visit!
This week members of the Central Bank Commission and leadership team visited #Galway and met with local businesses, entrepreneurs and community organisations to discuss the economic outlook, and the need to build economic and financial system resilience against an uncertain international backdrop. ✅Governor Gabriel Makhlouf and Commission member John Trethowan started the Galway visit by meeting with Steve Dolan (CEO of Galway Rural Development Clg), which delivers a range of rural enterprise, social inclusion and community development initiatives across the county of Galway. This was followed by a visit to Ballyglunin Station for a meeting with Maria Heneghan from Teagasc. ✅ Mary-Elizabeth McMunn (Deputy Governor, Financial Regulation) visited Druid Theatre to meet with stakeholders from across the creative arts scene, where she discussed the economic benefits of the creative and cultural industries for the Irish economy. Meanwhile Vasileios Madouros (Deputy Governor, Monetary and Financial Stability) and Commission member Mary Condon went to Galway Business park to meet leading medtech company Aerogen at their production facility, where they discussed the changing global supply chain. ✅ Chief Operating Officer Marcella Flood and Commission member Shay Cody had the opportunity to meet with Galway space tech company MBRYONICS, learning about their cutting edge technology transforming space communications. ✅ To round off the visit, Governor Makhlouf and Deputy Governor Madouros attended University of Galway for a fireside chat with students on "Globalisation in Retreat: The Outlook for the Global Economy" and to meet with some of the faculty, facilitated by former Commission member Professor Alan Ahearne. Speaking after the visit, Governor Makhlouf said: “It’s important for the Central Bank of Ireland to listen and engage with people in the real economy to inform our work, particularly at this time of uncertainty. We heard a diverse range of perspectives from the organisations we met in Galway, which adds a richness to our understanding of the economy.” Huge thanks to everyone in Galway for your warm welcome and showing us some of the fantastic initiatives going on in the "City of the tribes"!
