Today, GENE is pleased to launch the Peer Review Report on Global Education in Ireland, presented at a national launch event in Dublin with Neale Richmond, Ireland's Minister of State for International Development and Diaspora, Irish Aid, policymakers, civil society organisations and European partners. In his address, Minister Richmond welcomed the report as an important milestone for strengthening Ireland's commitment to Global Citizenship Education and reaffirmed its importance in promoting democratic values, human rights, international solidarity and sustainable development. At a time of growing global challenges—including threats to democracy, human rights, multilateralism, peace, climate justice and increasing disinformation—the report underlines the importance of continued investment in Global Education as a foundation for resilient, democratic and inclusive societies. Alongside recognising inspiring Irish practice, the Peer Review offers recommendations to help shape the next phase of Ireland's Global Citizenship Education strategy, strengthening cross-government cooperation, strategic dialogue and long-term leadership. As Ireland prepares for its Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026, the report provides timely learning not only for Ireland but for policymakers and Global Education stakeholders across Europe. 📖 Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/dFG3Y-mk #GlobalEducation #GlobalCitizenshipEducation #PolicyLearning #Education #Democracy #HumanRights #Sustainability #GENE #Ireland

Ireland takes on the EU Presidency next Wednesday. Development cooperation and the values that sustain it will be central priorities. The Irish Presidency will provide a platform for discussions on the future of development cooperation, recognising that the EU and its Member States are now the world’s largest provider of Official Development Assistance. Minister Neale Richmond yesterday outlined some of Ireland’s Presidency development cooperation priorities during an address at the Institute of International and European Affairs. These include: ·      Challenging the push back against core values and human rights. ·      Supporting dialogue on the future of development cooperation. ·      Shepherding an ambitious agenda on gender equality. ·      Focusing on collective action on food security and nutrition. ·      Prioritising the global health agenda. ·      Leading the EU at the next COP. Jordan Young Scientist (JoYS) 2026 Preparations for JoYS 2026 and the national exhibition is kicking off tomorrow, and takes place until 7 June at the Al Hussein Technical University in King Hussein Business Park. This year, JoYS have shortlisted 230 outstanding student projects across the five categories. These projects represent a truly national effort, with participation from all governorates in Jordan and across the four school sectors—a powerful reflection of the programme’s reach and inclusivity. A particularly special milestone this year celebrating the 5th anniversary of JoYS in Jordan. Over the past five years, JoYS has grown into a dynamic platform for nurturing curiosity, encouraging innovation, and empowering young people to tackle real-world challenges through STEM. JoYS is part of the wider Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition (YSTE) international programme, supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ireland, and delivered in partnership with the Embassy of Ireland in Jordan. This collaboration continues to strengthen educational ties and create meaningful opportunities for students to connect their ideas to a global stage. To all the students, teachers, mentors, and organisers involved—best of luck tomorrow as you bring your ideas to life. Your creativity, dedication, and passion are truly inspiring and a clear reminder of the bright future ahead 👏 #JoYS #YSTE #YoungScientists #STEM #Innovation #Jordan #FutureLeaders Manar Issam Abdullah Dr. John A (Tony) Scott Dr. Vincent O'Neill Therese Gunning

Aid cuts are killing people. That’s the blunt truth as we see ODA spending drop by 25%. These cuts mean HIV/Aids rates are increasing for the first time in 25 years, more women are dying in childbirth, malaria infection rates are increasing, conflict is spreading, Ebola is back, there are two active famines, more children are starving and the impacts of climate change are more pronounced. At times like this, we have a very clear political choice and through our upcoming EU Presidency, we intend to push to save Development Cooperation and Humanitarian aid. Development matters, it literally saves lives, it is the right thing to do but selfishly it also addresses, at source, the issues political leaders in Europe face everyday: energy costs, irregular migration, disease, food security, political stability, defence, climate action and so much more. It was brilliant to address a range of key stakeholders this morning, organised by Dochas, to lay out how we will continue to invest in development through our domestic budget as well as through the EU budget and policy platform.

  • This World Refugee Day, do you know where most refugees come from? Or where most refugees are hosted? Or what forces people to become refugees? Too many people around the world are forced to flee their homes due to conflict and persecution. Ireland works with partners such as UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency to support people where they are, as well as tackling the crises that forced them to leave their homes. #WorldRefugeeDay
