GOAL teams are responding after two powerful earthquakes struck northern #Venezuela less than a minute apart on Wednesday evening. Critical infrastructure, homes and public buildings in Caracas and surrounding areas have suffered extensive damage. With search and rescue efforts continuing, there are concerns the death toll could rise significantly as the full extent of the devastation becomes clear. "As local communities celebrated their country's independence, this could not have come at a worse time for the people of Venezuela," says Phil Gelman, GOAL's Latin America and Caribbean Regional Director. "Families who have already endured years of humanitarian and economic hardship are now facing another devastating crisis, while a health system already under immense pressure is being pushed even further", Phil added. "These first few days are critical. Families have lost loved ones, homes and any sense of certainty about what tomorrow will bring. Behind every number is a family desperately searching for loved ones, wondering where they will sleep tonight and how they will begin to rebuild. GOAL’s team are working on the ground with local partners to assess the damage and identify the most urgent humanitarian needs. As the full scale of the devastation becomes clearer, we stand ready to provide life-saving support to those affected." GOAL has launched an emergency fundraising appeal to support communities affected by the earthquakes. • GOAL was pleased to attend the launch of Dóchas' EU Presidency programme, bringing together civil society organisations, policymakers and experts to discuss the future of international development cooperation. GOAL CEO Jennifer Farrelly, Director of Development, Communications and Global Citizenship Jennifer Nolan, and WASH Programme Manager Thomas jones joined colleagues from across the sector to explore how civil society can contribute to Ireland's EU Presidency and help shape EU development and humanitarian policy. The event highlighted the vital role of civil society in strengthening partnerships, informing policy and ensuring the voices of communities affected by poverty, conflict, displacement and climate change remain central to decision-making. As humanitarian needs continue to grow globally, Ireland's EU Presidency presents an important opportunity to advance effective, principled and locally led humanitarian and development action. #Ireland2026EU #EU2026

  • At a time when humanitarian needs are rising and aid workers face increasing risks, strong political leadership and international cooperation have never been more important. This week at the VOICE EU General Assembly, GOAL's Director of Development, Brandon S., and GOAL's Programme Advocacy Manager, Dee da Silva, were pleased to hear from Niall Cremen of Ireland's Permanent Representation to the European Union, who outlined Ireland's priorities during its Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The discussion recognised the growing challenges facing humanitarian action, while reaffirming Ireland's commitment to supporting strategic dialogue on the future of development cooperation. Central to this vision is reaching those furthest behind, with a clear focus on #ClimateChange, #FoodSecurity and protection. One of the landmark events of Ireland's #EUPresidency will be the International Conference on the Protection of Humanitarian Aid Workers in Brussels this October. Bringing together governments and humanitarian organisations, the conference will focus on a critical issue for our sector: how we better protect those delivering lifesaving assistance on the front lines. As conflicts intensify and crises become more complex, protecting humanitarian workers is not optional – it is essential. #VOICEGA26 #IrelandEU2026 #EU2026

⚽ We were thrilled with the turnout out at our Penos for Palestine activation at Beyond The Pale festival over the weekend!   🧤 As the sun shone down on Glendalough Estate, festival-goers stepped up to test their penalty-taking skills against our two GOALkeepers, Republic of Ireland football legend Louise Quinn and ex-Ireland rugby star Jenny Murphy   🙏 We are extremely grateful to everyone who took part on both Saturday and Sunday. All funds raised will support GOAL's lifesaving work in #Gaza.    🔜 Be sure to keep an eye out for #PenosForPalestine at future events!
