What does transparency mean at COP? Stephen Treacy, Senior Manager at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Ireland Climate Change Programme, was at COP29 as part of Ireland’s delegation. The EPA plays a key role in the UNFCCC Transparency process, which focuses on reporting and reviewing climate data like greenhouse gas inventories and national reports. Transparency goes beyond reporting - it tracks emissions, identifies priorities, monitors progress, and supports informed decisions. It helps countries set targets, shape policies, and unlock funding to drive ambitious, long-term climate action. The Textiles Circularity Gap Report takes a deep dive in to Textiles in Ireland to better understand the challenges and opportunities for Ireland in its transition to a Circular Economy. Check out Circle Economy Foundation for more.
EU member states are gearing up to meet the EU requirement to set up a separate textile collection system by the 1st of January 2025. Ireland’s Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications commissioned Circle Economy to produce a special report, ‘CGR Ireland: A circular transition for post-consumer textiles’. This report draws on existing national data as well as more recent waste characteristics in 2022, updated and verified by desk research, interviews and a survey carried out by Circle Economy. It aims to increase Ireland’s understanding of the challenges, opportunities and barriers related to post-consumer textile prevention and management. The report makes a series of recommendations to DECC on how to implement a more effective national separate collection scheme and end-of-use value chain. Read the full report and learn about Ireland’s path to circular textiles: https://lnkd.in/eZUuvmxf What about the global textile industry? Stay tuned for the launch of the Circularity Gap Report Textiles on November 28, where we’ll examine the circularity of textiles worldwide.
