In our new ‘Get to Know’ series, we’re highlighting our employees by sharing a little bit about their background, their role and what they enjoy most about working at CitySwift. This month we’re shining the spotlight on Solutions Director, Iain McMillan, who’s worked at CitySwift since 2021. 📋A little bit about Iain's background… This month marks 40 years since I earned my Bus Driving license with Lincolnshire Road Car, setting me on the path to a lifelong career in transport. For the following 16 years, I moved from Leading Driver to Depot Manager, then into the commercial side as a Scheduler and later Planning Manager. In February 2001, I joined Stagecoach Group Limited to roll out a new scheduling package. I spent 20 years travelling across all Stagecoach UK OpCos, gaining a deep understanding of how unrealistic timetables and inefficient duties impact a business financially. I thought Stagecoach would be my final career stop, but a well-timed call from Alan Farrelly in 2021 inspired me to take on a new challenge—and I’ve been part of CitySwift ever since. 🚍His journey at CitySwift… My first role as Customer Success Manager focused on engaging with customers and ensuring they had the support they needed. With my background in buses, I quickly became involved internally, explaining how bus companies operate, identifying useful features for customers, and spotting gaps in the market. As CitySwift grew, there was a greater need for a dedicated team to work with customers before and after sales—diagnosing challenges, ensuring smooth deployments, and keeping product enhancements on track. This led to the creation of the Solutions department, and I stepped into the role of Solutions Manager. Now, as CitySwift expands into new markets, I’m adapting and learning new skills, proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks! In recognition of this work, I’ve recently been promoted to Solutions Director. 💡What Iain enjoys about working at CitySwift… We have a fantastic team, and even though we’re rapidly growing, we’ve kept our small-company feel—where direct conversations with anyone, from developers to the CEO, are the norm. Everyone’s voice matters at CitySwift. We don’t just provide a product; we support our customers, and my bus industry experience helps shape ideas and improvements. I also love our regular get-togethers—they keep us connected as we grow. My work spans multiple projects, with priorities constantly shifting. Some might find that chaotic, but for me, it keeps things exciting! At CitySwift we’re always looking for top talent to join our team - if you think that’s you then take a look at our open roles! https://lnkd.in/eXWnF_mF #TeamCitySwift #LifeAtCitySwift #PublicTransportInnovation
