  • Speaking at the Cross Border Conference in Belfast today, Garda Commissioner Drew Harris, said: “The Cross Border Conference provides a valuable opportunity for both police services, Government departments and partner agencies to meet with one another and discuss the common issues we face in tackling cross border crime." "As has been highlighted on many occasions, we do know that crime knows no borders, and there are criminal networks who will seek to exploit borders to commit serious crime and devastate our communities. And so, it takes a network to defeat a network. I firmly believe by working in partnership we can indeed disrupt and dismantle those networks who seek to take advantage of our communities by flouting the law." “In building on our partnerships, and sharing in the successes and the experiences of others - particularly at events like today’s conference - we strengthen our capabilities. By working side by side we can do more to tackle criminal networks who seek to exploit the border region, and deliver on our mission of keeping people safe.” Pictured at the start of the Cross Border Conference are: Police Service of Northern Ireland Deputy Chief Constable Bobby Singleton; Justice Minister Naomi Long MLA, Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan T.D. and An Garda Síochána Commissioner Drew Harris

  • The Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau was established on the 9th March 2015. Ten years later the GNDOCB has seized 🔹️€627 million in illicit drugs 🔹️171 firearms and 6,586 rounds of ammunition 🔹️cash €33,284,931, £385,591 GBP, $59,721 USD and 🔹️€20,103,030 forfeited to the state 🔹️1,722 arrests for drug trafficking, money laundering, possession of firearms and other offences The GNDOCB has interdicted in numerous ‘threat to life’ operations. The GNDOCB leads on Operation Tara, to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels - international, national, local - involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs. The GNDOCB co-ordinates and supports Divisional Drugs Units with a strong focus on tackling street-level dealing in cities, towns and villages across the country. The GNDOCB supports An Garda Síochána’s well-established Drug Related Intimidation Reporting Programme and supports the Government-led health approach to drug addiction. Under Operation Thor, the GNDOCB co-ordinates and supports Divisional resources actively targeting organised crime gangs and repeat offenders, particularly involved in rural burglaries and crimes. The GNDOCB actively works with other state agencies including Revenue (Ireland) Customs, and the Irish Naval Service through the Joint Task Force on Drug Interdiction, Criminal Assets Bureau, across the island of Ireland through the Cross-Border Joint Agency Task Force and internationally with INTERPOL , Europol, Maritime Analysis and Operations Centre (Narcotics) - MAOC (N), and wider through the network of Garda Liaison Officers and contacts in the Americas, Europe and Middle East. Speaking on the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the GNDOCB, Assistant Commissioner Angela Willis highlighted that Ireland has the 4th highest demand for illicit drugs in Europe for South American cocaine. There is a direct link between individuals choosing to use illegal drugs in recreational settings and the murderous criminal cocaine cartels in South America and International Organised Crime Gangs who import and trade in these dangerous drugs. AC Willis also highlighted that these criminal cocaine cartels and organised crime groups seek out and target individuals, including the business community, with vulnerabilities, to use them for their criminal activities. Any person who is approached by any individual, with an ‘easy or quick’ solution to their difficulties must think twice, please contact An Garda Síochána for advice and support. 🔹️999/ 112 🔹️Local Garda Station 🔹️Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 🔹️Customs Drugs Watch - Confidential line 1800 295 295 For more on GNDOCB listen back to 'Distmantling Organised Crime Groups in Ireland' on the Garda Podcast https://lnkd.in/eSuiZXkh https://lnkd.in/ea3nF7QX

  • There are more than 6,000 female Garda personnel working across An Garda Síochána to help keep the people of Ireland safe, and more women hold senior leadership roles in our organisation than ever before. Despite only being able to complete Garda training since 1959 - together - we’ve managed to become one of Europe’s most female police services. Today on International Women’s Day we can reflect on how far we’ve come, while also acknowledging that there’s still some progress to be achieved for women pursuing careers in Irish policing and security. #IWD2025
