In early trade, the Straits Times Index headed down 0.2 per cent to 3,309.13 points after 21 million securities changed hands in the broader market. In terms of companies to watch, we have Frasers Logistics & Commercial Trust. Its distribution per unit (DPU) for the first half of the fiscal year declined 1.1 per cent to S$0.0348. Meanwhile, from more on Tokyo Disney Resort’s S$2.8 billion expansion to Apple reportedly developing its homegrown chip to run AI tools in data centres, more corporate and international headlines remain in focus. ▶ Japan Exchange Group CEO Emphasizes Dialogue with Shareholders In a recent symposium, Hiromi Yamaji, CEO of Japan Exchange Group (JPX), continued to stress the importance of increased dialogue between public companies and their shareholders in #Japan. As #corporategovernance reforms accelerate in the country, Yamaji highlighted the need for companies to regularly update their #shareholders on their progress towards improving corporate value and share price, two key drivers of these reforms. The Tokyo Stock Exchange, which is owned by the JPX, has taken several steps to enhance corporate governance, including streamlining the Prime section by eliminating around 20% of companies listed as such, raising the required standards for inclusion in the #TOPIX index, as well as requiring more independent directors on company boards. These initiatives, some analysts observe, have been an important factor in a significant increase in the benchmark Nikkei Stock Average. Yamaji acknowledged that while progress has been made, there is still room for considerable improvement. He urged companies to focus on concrete goals and communicate their plans ever-more effectively with shareholders. Notably, the TSE is also implementing measures to further enhance corporate governance, such as requiring Prime-listed firms to make disclosures in both Japanese and English.

Sinohope Technology Holdings Limited (1611.HK) announced that its subsidiary, Sinohope Asset Management (Hong Kong) Limited (“Sinohope AM”), has received approval from the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission for its application for a Type 1 (dealing in securities) license and an uplift of its Type 4 (advising on securities) license. With the new Type 1 license, Sinohope AM will be able to distribute virtual asset (VA) related products to professional investors, including but not limited to VA funds and VA structured products. As a Type 4 license holder, Sinohope AM can now also provide VA advisory services under its uplifted license. We look forward to leveraging these new licenses to better serve professional investors with innovative VA offerings. HKSAR Proposes to Waive the Stamp Duty Payable on the Transfer of Shares or Units of REIT and the Jobbing Business of Options Market Makers On November 8, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) published the Stamp Duty Legislation (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill 2024 to waive the stamp duty payable on the transfer of shares or units of real estate investment trust (REIT) and the jobbing business of options market makers, and to provide for a revised stamp duty collection arrangement upon the implementation of the uncertificated securities market (USM) regime in HKSAR. "The stamp duty waiver payable on the transfer of REIT shares or units and the jobbing business of options market makers, as announced in the 2024-25 Budget, would enhance the competitiveness of Hong Kong REITs and reduce the transaction costs of options market makers. The revised stamp duty collection arrangement would facilitate a more efficient stamping and collection process under the USM environment. These measures would help promote the development of the financial market," the Government spokesperson said. The Bill will be introduced into the Legislative Council for first reading on November 20.

Toymaker Bloks Group (stock code: 325.HK) surged 82% in Hong Kong debut after sizzling IPO reception Demand from Hong Kong retail investors for Bloks Group's IPO's public subscription tranche was 6,000 times more than the amount of shares allocated to them, the second highest on record since media publisher Most Kwai Chung attracted 6,289 times of subscription in its IPO in 2018. Bids from global institutional investors for the IPO's internationsl placing tranche reached 38.6 times. Shares of Chinese toymaker Bloks Group surged as much as 82 per cent in their Hong Kong market debut on 10 January 2025, after its initial public offering (IPO) attracted huge demand from retail and institutional investors. The shares first changed hands at HK$109.60 versus the IPO price of HK$60.35 when trading began at 9.30am local time. They rose to as high as HK$109.90 before closing at HK$85 on the company's listing date, valuing the maker of Ultraman and Transformers figurines at HK$20.8 billion (US$2.7 billion). The Shanghai-based firm raised HK$1.6 billion of net proceeds by selling 27.7 million shares to investors, pricing the IPO at the top end of the HK$55.65 to HK$60.35 range.
