Congratulations to our PERM student Cheung Ka-long on winning the gold medal in the fencing individual foil competition 🥇at Paris 2024 Olympics! After a tense contest with his opponent, Ka-long won the gold medal with a score of 15:14 in the finals, the second gold medal of his career. The Faculty expresses its respect and pride for Ka-long's outstanding performance and mentality, and for showcasing the ability of Hong Kong athletes on the world fencing stage. #hkbu #ParisOlympic #HKBUinParis

Outstanding 2024/25 GRF/ECS grant success of FASS The Research Grant Council (RGC) released the 2024/25 results of the General Research Fund (GRF)/Early Career Scheme (ECS) on 27 June 2024. Within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, a total of 21 researchers successfully secured 14 GRF projects and 7 ECS projects. The combined grant amount awarded totals $16.4 million. Congratulations to the colleagues who received the award this year! The awards signify our colleagues' effort to drive research excellence and to build research impact within and beyond academia. Dr. Kwong Chi Man's Project Received HKBU Knowledge Transfer Award 2023/24 from the University's Knowledge Transfer Office To recognize the knowledge transfer projects that have the greatest value for community engagement, the University's Knowledge Transfer Office (KTO) presented the HKBU Knowledge Transfer Award to Dr. Kwong Chi Man from the Department of History for his project “Revisiting the Wartime History of Hong Kong through GIS-Based Historical Spatial Data Platforms”. Dr. Kwong and his research team have been creating GIS-based interactive maps of Hong Kong's wartime history since 2018. Their interactive maps are available online for open access and have influenced the way professionals in various fields approach their research. His project has promoted the use of spatial data in cultural and educational work, and introduced a unique historical perspective to professional sectors in Hong Kong. Dr. Kwong's project stands out as an exemplary instance of transdisciplinary research that integrates history and technology for public social and cultural benefits. Congratulations to Dr. Kwong for his success!

The Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Social Sciences hosted the International Symposium on Humanities, Societies, and Digital Futures on 21-22 March 2024 at the Hong Kong Palace Museum. The symposium explored AI's impact on humanity and society with distinguished guests like Prof. Alex Wai, Prof. Sun Dong, Dr. Clement Chen, and Prof. James Tang Tuck-hong. This event showcased HKBU's commitment to advancing knowledge and fostering dialogue on AI's transformative power. Prof. Alex Wai emphasized the Symposium's importance in examining the ethical, societal, economic, and educational implications of AI, highlighting HKBU's dedication to transdisciplinary education and research. Dr. Clement Chen underscored HKBU's role as a catalyst for change and commitment to fostering innovation through interdisciplinary collaboration. The Symposium attracted over 500 participants and had nearly 1.7 million global viewers via LiveStream.
