From automating unit testing for developers to streamlining copy-paste actions, UiPath constantly seeks innovation to ignite human potential through automation. The company has been a pioneer in AI-powered automation with products like Communications Mining as well as Document Understanding that auto-triages customer communications and prioritizes and routes underwriting requests. UiPath has helped increase transaction throughput by sevenfold and saved one insurance industry customer more than 90,000 hours through more efficient operations. UiPath and Microsoft are working together to take these results to the next level and revolutionize industries with the power of generative AI using Microsoft Azure OpenAI service.
As a pioneer of enterprise automation, UiPath has charted an impressive course toward an automation-driven future since its inception. “Our mission is to accelerate human achievement,” describes Riley O’Brien Wolff, Senior Director of Global Technology Alliances at UiPath. From liberating employees from mundane tasks to fueling businesses with unrivaled efficiency, that mission resonates in every facet of the company’s operation.
UiPath’s best-in-class artificial intelligence (AI)-powered products include Document Understanding, Communications Mining, Clipboard AI, and Task Mining. “Even with all we’ve achieved with AI, we want to go to the next level,” remarks Mark Geene, Senior Vice President and General Manager of AI at UiPath. “With the new wave of large language models (LLMs), we aim to deliver new scenarios and use cases powered by generative AI.”
Six principles for ethical AI solutions
Microsoft plays an instrumental role in enabling UiPath's groundbreaking endeavors. “Our partnership started in 2018, with a program that is now called ‘Microsoft for Startups’,” reveals Cesar Sangueado, Senior Technology Alliances Manager for Microsoft at UiPath. “Our partnership has three distinct forms—we build innovative solutions together, launch them on Azure’s industry-leading AI platform, and delight joint customers.” Since using Azure OpenAI Service to develop its products further, UiPath has been transforming the way people work.
Inspired by Microsoft’s six guiding principles to drive its AI strategy responsibly: security, privacy, extensive language support, scalable resources, compliance certification, and enterprise-grade deployment pipelines, UiPath has developed its own responsible AI principles to maintain safeguards for data protection, human-centricity and transparency, technical and security robustness, as well as empower digital education and upskilling. "Our priorities are security and privacy," remarks Geene. “Because the biggest challenge for any enterprise using AI technology is to prevent confidential business data from being used to feed a prompt in a publicly available bot.”
Using Azure OpenAI Service frees companies of this concern. “It combines advanced models with a customized knowledge base,” highlights Sandeep Panda, Principal Strategic Technology Alliances at UiPath. “This gives our customers control over all queries and data without sharing them externally, as what usually happens with public AI chatbots.” Additionally, Azure cloud services meet rigid compliance requirements, providing an extra safeguard for businesses within highly regulated industries like health care, government, and insurance.
Productivity boost across teams with AI
UiPath has applied Azure OpenAI Service to a multitude of use cases internally. One of them includes the automatic generation of unit test cases for its developers. “Based on provided code, the solution produces the test case, streamlining the development process and saving substantial time for more than 300 software engineers,” shares Panda.
Another compelling example is the legal field. "We tapped into our existing knowledge base and connected it to Azure OpenAI Service to deliver a legal Q&A channel," adds Panda. This now enables staff to prompt legal questions and receive relevant information, liberating legal teams to concentrate on more impactful tasks.
UiPath also used Azure OpenAI Service to enhance the organization's Objectives and Key Results (OKR) process. “We developed a use case where the AI can guide employees in developing their objectives, and even assist them in reporting progress, enhancing employees’ performance evaluations,” shares Panda.
7x more effective in less time
The transformation will spark new heights of efficiency and accessibility for UiPath's products. "Our Document Understanding product reads and understands a document, enabling customers to chain automation and enhance business workflows," reveals Luke Palamara, Vice President of AI Product Management at UiPath. "It reduces invoice processing time by 70 percent and increases throughput seven-fold. Having Azure OpenAI Service has helped UiPath implement the document processing product faster, accelerate the training of specialized models, and make document contents more accessible to users.”
Communications Mining has also brought considerable advancement. “The service allows businesses to discover trends and topics users care about based on incoming emails and communications,” explains Palamara. “Communications Mining uses Azure OpenAI Service for key features like auto-classification. It has led to 90,000+ hours saved for an insurance customer, thanks to more effective communication triage.”
One of the most game-changing tools, however, is UiPath Clipboard AI, which has the potential to transform how people interact with various everyday forms, data, and documents. “It contextually recognizes information from any copied document. When a user pastes the whole thing, the solution can understand which data goes to which field in a form,” explains Palamara.

United in accelerating human potential
UiPath's commitment to empowering customers to work faster and smarter is reflected in its plans. “We plan to enable developers to create automation using natural language and generate the workflow automatically,” says Geene “It should combine the power of UiPath and Azure OpenAI Service to empower every employee in an organization to create automations on the UiPath platform”.
Along with this, UiPath aims to bring generative AI to nearly every aspect of its platform. “We have made Azure OpenAI Service accessible as a service to all our developers. It will empower any UiPath developer to incorporate Azure OpenAI Service into their projects readily and quickly while providing centralized governance and control,” he adds. “The wave of AI is transformative. We believe it will change how we live and work. That’s why we want to drive this change within our organization and for our customers,” sums up Geene.
