Ellyn Lapointe

Ellyn is a science writer for Gizmodo primarily covering the environment, earth science, and space, though she loves reporting on a wide range of topics. Prior to joining Gizmodo in May 2025, Ellyn's work appeared in Business Insider, Scientific American, Smithsonian Magazine online, and other outlets. She earned her master's degree in science journalism from New York University and a dual bachelor's degree in English and environmental science from the University of Vermont. Ellyn grew up skiing, hiking, and horseback riding in rural Vermont and is now based in Brooklyn, where she is always searching for ways to reconnect with nature in and around the city. This tends to include birding in various parks, hiking in the Hudson Valley, or observing backyard squirrels alongside her cat, Franklin.
