    NORSE is a clinical presentation in which patients without a history of epilepsy suddenly develop prolonged seizures that do not respond to at least two standard anti-convulsant medications and for which the cause for the seizures remains unidentifiable beyond 72 hours. FIRES, once considered a pediatric condition, is now considered a sub-category of NORSE. There is no age limitation for NORSE or FIRES.
