📝 Press Release – AFP unveils a photography exhibition celebrating real lives in the Balkans Agence France-Presse (AFP), with the support of the L'Oréal Group, announces the launch of a new photography exhibition and dialogue series, “Unbounded Voices”, showcasing the lives of different women across the Balkans. Opening on May 19, 2026, at the French Institute in Belgrade, the exhibition aims to capture the everyday realities of women from Tirana to Banja Luka. Born from a gap between perception and reality, this project aims to stimulate debate and show the reality far from the stereotypical images too often projected onto the region, portraying the pride, joys, power and strength of women who have long claimed their own space, even when history tried to deny them. Entirely curated and driven by AFP journalists, the exhibition is a completely independent editorial project. The essential backing of the L'Oréal Group helped bring it to the public, allowing these uncompromising narratives to be shown without altering AFP's journalistic vision. Captured through the lenses of AFP photographers and journalists across the entire region, the project features nine women photographed in their own surroundings. It is a deeply collaborative effort by AFP's local contributors across the Balkans, united by a shared commitment to documenting these intimate realities on their own terms. ➡️ Access the full press release via the link in the comments

The biggest fact-checking team of the world (afaik) looks back at 2025: https://lnkd.in/eZnwgU3T The Annual Report of AFP's digital investigations unit documents the great work Julie Charpentrat and her team deliver every day. Most interesting stat for me: AI-related investigations are the single most covered topics, making up 11% of their total output. The report also mentions the many ways in which AFP works together with the European Fact-Checking Standards Network (EFCSN). Thanks a lot for the great cooperation, Marie Bohner, Christine Buhagiar, Catherine Lehmann!

🌏 INVESTIGATION - AFP and The Gecko Project have revealed how timber grown atop cleared Indonesian rainforest entered the supply chain of a company making “carbon-neutral” packaging. Asia Symbol’s “carbon-neutral” products were used by pharmaceutical giant Haleon, which said it was cutting ties with the company in response to the investigation’s findings. Indonesia has some of the world’s highest forest loss, and timber plantations identified in the investigation deforested an area nearly three times the size of Paris between 2016 and 2024. The investigation used satellite analysis, government audit documents, trade records, ship-tracking and open-source data to trace timber from Indonesia to China. AFP reporters also spoke to residents affected by the deforestation, who described losing their land and suffering increased flooding as a result. The reporting underscores how deforestation continues to insinuate international supply chains despite growing sustainability pledges. 🖋️ Sara Hussein and The Gecko Project 📸 Bay Ismoyo, Greg Baker, Satya Adhi and Agatha Cantrill. 👉 Get a free trial of AFP News to access the investigation (see link in the comments).
