Hi,
Very simple question, am I covered for RAC Breakdown in Jersey ?

The Terms and Conditions (page 10) say "If your vehicle breaks down in the UK, as long as you’re more than a quarter of a mile from home". Jersey is not in the UK, so it seems not.

On page 7 of the guide @Beelzebub shared (thank you!), it states the following "In this policy, UK means England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Jersey, Guernsey, and the Isle of Man." So, yes, you are covered.

Are you planning a trip there?

Well spotted! But that definition is just plain wrong. The Channel Islands and IOM are not, and never have been, part of the UK>

Perhaps it’s just down to the “wording “ in the document.

At present all I can say is that I hope I won’t need the RAC while in Jersey….

There was a TV programme a few years ago* where some clowns brought a family to the Isle of Man as the producers were trying to sell an American as the true King of the Isle of Man. It was a complete farce as it was pointed out that EIIR was the true Queen of the Isle of Man as part of the UK. The Channel Islands were flaunted as the only part of the UK under German control during WW2.

@Beelzebub I think is a bit like Australia taking part in Eurovision, but with a closer relationship, since Jersey is a Crown Dependency of the British Crown! And thank you, I like to check and sometimes double-check the info I share here.

Don't believe all you hear on TV!
QE was indeed queen of the IOM, but not as part of the UK. It, is, (as Lily has said about Jersey), a Crown Dependency. (QE was also queen of Canada and Australia, and sundry other countries as well as the UK).
As for the Channel Islands, they were the only part of the British Isles - not the UK - to be under German control. No part of the UK ever was.

Beelzebub, thanks for clarilication. My personal confusion arose from the fact I have visited both without a passport.

Isn't part of a legal document that you may outline your own usage for a word to be found later in the document, and then when you use it later your definition stands?

For example if you state you state you consider "x" to include the Channel Islands, then say the car is covered in "x" then it's covered in the Channel Islands, even if geographically/politically it isn't part of "x"?

If that's accurate I don't know whether some reasonableness or Average Joe test comes into it... it's forgivable for most people to think the Channel Islands are in the UK, but if you stated North Korea includes the Channel Islands I don't know if that'd be sufficient?

Up to a point. Consumer contracts are subject to the Unfair Contract Terms legislation. AIUI that gives a court the power to strike out any offending clause, or even a whole contract.

In the RAC's case, this won't arise since the dodgy definition actually works in the customer's favour.
