Arrow The Thing Prequel

It's a prequel! For me this is great news as I feel The Thing shouldn't be remade and if they have to revisit it, a prequel could be pretty darn interesting. Latino Review reported this little tidbit:

Quote:
Today to I spoke to director Marc Abraham whose new movie, “Flash of Genius” is coming out soon. But he's not known for directing. he's know for producing. One of his future projects is a remake of the 1982 horror classic “John Carpenter's The Thing.”

I asked Marc how can you possibly top the 1982 version and whether or not it is a remake or a sequel. This was his reply:

"This is more of a prequel than a sequel, there is your exclusive. Its going to be taking place in the same time frame."

So I asked him if we are going to find out the origins of the alien and it landing on earth and he said:

“These are the events leading up to the 1982 film.”

As most of you know, "The Thing" is a 1982 science fiction and horror film directed by John Carpenter, and starred Kurt Russell.

The film is about a shape-shifting alien that is revived after being frozen in ice. The alien infiltrates a scientific research station in the Antarctic and kills a Norwegian research team. A nearby American research team investigates the incident and is in turn infiltrated by the alien. Blood, gore and a head with spider legs ensue.

So this means that we get to find out what Norwegian research team went through!!

This is really exciting news as long as they get the story and casting great, this doesn’t sound like a remake but a whole new story leading up to the 1982 version.

Excited? I sure am. Unfortunately I only had a few minutes with the guy so I couldn't ask him anything else on it, but this is pretty good news for fans of the John Carpenter version.

cool stuff...they could do much more with today's special effects and if the story is done right this could be great.

Indeed great news. I have strong memories of The Thing as I was a kid when first seeing it, man was I impressed !

The only downside is that whenever you get this kind of info at this time in the production of a film, you are generally one or two years away from the release which is aggravating when you really want to see the movie in question.

For those interested in the origin of the story for this movie, "Who Goes There?" is a science fiction novella by John W. Campbell, Jr., first published in 1938. Check it out....

Is this for the Thing or the events leading up to what happened there or both? Sounds like something I'll pick up either way.

Or it could turn out crappy like Starship Trooper:Marauders. I personally think they ought to leave the Thing alone. If it aint broke don't fix it, prequel it, sequel it, remake it or reimagine it....
If they really want to do something with it they should go by the game storyline and have the cameo with Kurt Russel.

Seems they keep changing their minds. First it was going to be a remake, then a sequel, and now a prequel. Pick an idea and stick with it.

I wonder if they will show how "2 face" and the dude with blood running down his arms will be seen?

I think it could be a good film if seen from the point of view of the Norwegian research team and how they find the alien.

I hope the cast of actor's they pick are good actor's AND let's see a few WOMEN this time. Please. I think they would make the film even more
powerful. *like maybe ONLY the Women get away in the end before the
Norwegian men all taken over by the alien* and before the fade to black
there is a shot of one of the women on an airplane heading home and we
see one of her eyes change color or sometime. The End?? IMO.

"Who Goes There?" was the novella that both "The Thing from Another World" (1951) and " The Thing" (1982) are base on. The 1951 version is also very good, especially if you like 50's sci/fi.

The Thing. Features McCready, Blair etc. I used to own a 1st edition signed copy, but sold it off a couple of years ago.

Here's an update on the story via Worst Previews.com

Quote:
"In the screenplay by Ronald D. Moore, the prequel takes place from the Norwegian camps point of view. An American scientific expedition to the frozen wastes of the Antarctic is interrupted by a group of seemingly mad Norwegians pursuing and shooting a dog. The helicopter pursuing the dog crashes leaving no explanation for the chase. During the night, the dog mutates and attacks other dogs in the cage and members of the team that investigate. The team soon realize that an alien life-form with the ability to take over bodies is on the loose and they don't know who may already have been taken over."

I love the 1982 version of the film and I think the Blu-ray is one of the best titles available. Not sure what to think of this "prequel" I will just have to wait and see what the previews look like as I'm usually against remakes, reboots, prequels and sequels that go pass the 3rd film in a series of any kind, but it could turn at pretty good. I just won't hold my breathe.

If you go to the link it says the same thing (sourcing the Bloody Disgusting article). The problem is Bloody Disgusting doesn't have a source. Just "we got our hands on the working plot." (?)

The producer is the one quoted in the original post. So (IMO) I'll wait until I hear who Bloody Disgusting is getting their information from. We may have to wait until the project moves forward a bit before we get anything official. One thing's for sure...I hope they don't screw it up.

*Edit - Pyre - What happened to your post (I was answering you)
