The A24 edition.

Why? Is there some clue in the printed material? I've never read it. Maybe the Arrow version is more revealing?

There's none.
[Show spoiler]hidden meaning you either like the style/approach or not. Copying or homaging HP Lovecraft Gods, Homer/Greek type gods or whatever, Edgar Allen Poe and what not.

It just has those nice cupcake sprinkles of homages to 1.19:1 ratio films, The Tentacles represent Cthulu mythos American horror writer H. P. Lovecraft. Even on the commentary Eggers mentions Dagon God being related to Willems character when Pattinsons character flips through his scrap book but he edited it out so as to not draw attention to the homage directly or turn the film into that story or whatever.

Then Eggers brother his co-writer based some of it off of Edgar Allen Poes unfinished lighthouse or some story so it has those vibes. And then you have all this mythology God type stuff crammed in there the screeching Mermaid, the Reincarnated Seagulls that represent Willem reborn as a Seagull having his revenge on Pattinson or the mythological story of whatever that god was who gets his liver ate out for eternity. If you pay attention they go crazy and they destroy the boat with the axe so they can't leave the island like Homers Odyessy. Just classic literature shit.

I love The Northman the most, but you can clearly see in this and The Witch he was trying to just take a lot of material and blend it up, and I think they're entertaining movies and take some effort to make even if his first 2 just copy all day long. If you like Shakesphere watch The Northman, if you like Poe/Lovecraft/Homer watch The Lighthouse, if you like a New England states folk tale The Witch. I like them all but each film has become a step and it's fun watching him climb the stairs. I think every film is better than his last so far.

Crazy! It's obvious the Arrow version is better. It's like putting on a pair of glasses and suddenly the image is in focus. I don't think it's due to sharpening either, just better detail.

Is this as good as it gets for a region A 4K release anytime soon?

No chance of a cheaper version?

If by "region A" you mean a US release, then yes, probably.

You can always get the UK release from Arrow though.

Finally got to see this for the first time last night on Max. Watched it twice, back to back, then immediately ordered the A24 set. Most expensive single movie Ive ever bought, but I think its more than worth it honestly.

Anyone know if Apple or Lionsgate will release this film in 4K digitally? The Witch, The Northman, and Nosferatu are all in 4K. I'm not sure why this one isn't.

This has been SOLD OUT for several weeks... So, is this for good, or will it return?

Movies that had a prior release from Lionsgate got the long case, releases that didn't have a prior U.S. release didnt get the long cases.
