Phebe Novakovic has been chairman and CEO of General Dynamics since 2013. She grew up as the daughter of an Air Force officer and previously worked for the CIA. Novakovic famously shuns the spotlight, but over the past few years she has led the aerospace and defense company in securing several major contracts. In 2022 it won more than $1 billion in orders from both the U.S. Army and Navy. In 2024 the company landed a $1.3 billion contract to deliver armored vehicles to Austria and a $922 million bid to modernize the IT infrastructure of U.S. Central Command. General Dynamics is known for manufacturing the M1 Abrams tank, the Gulfstream jet, and nuclear submarines. Novakovic serves as chairman of the board at the Association of the United States Army and sits on the board of JPMorgan Chase.
