Michael Bloomberg is a man of many careers. He started out at Salomon Brothers, where he rose through the ranks to become a general partner. When he was fired in 1981, he took his $10 million severance package and used the money to found the company that would later become Bloomberg LP, focused on delivering financial information to Wall Street. The company later launched Bloomberg News in 1990. Bloomberg himself became one of the richest men in the world, but he stepped away from his business after he was elected mayor of New York City in 2001, eventually serving three terms. After his stint in government, he resumed leadership at Bloomberg LP. He dabbled in politics again when he ran for president in 2020, but dropped out. Bloomberg has been heavily involved in philanthropy and has given significant donations to political candidates.
