"I have been at Atlassian for 8 years, and hope to be here for 8 more! I feel incredibly supported as a working parent; the benefits provided by Atlassian are essential to my family. The addition of a fertility benefit in 2023 was so meaningful and inclusive. I love being able to work from wherever I see fit, whether it's at home or in one of our amazing, collaborative offices."
Atlassian’s Team Anywhere Lab helps global employees tailor workdays to meet their needs, as they determine whether to work in-person or remotely, or to start or end the day later based on personal factors. The provider of project management software donates 1% of its equity, profits, employee hours, and products to the Atlassian Foundation, which has donated more than $56 million and more than 230,000 volunteer hours. A good portion of this goes to Room to Read, a nonprofit supporting education for disadvantaged youth, but staff can choose which charitable organization they wish to donate their time and money to.
Every employee receives 40 hours of paid volunteer leave annually, and the company matches donations of up to $1,000 per worker. Staff can nominate their peers in the Kudos program, which highlights employee achievement and issues gift-card awards to those selected.
It’s fitting that Atlassian, a leading provider of collaboration, development, and issue tracking software for teams, would be leading the charge when it comes to employee flexibility in the new era of work. With nearly half (47%) of new hires living more than two hours away from a physical office, the company not only doesn’t have in-office work requirements, but it also doesn’t expect employees to work a traditional nine-to-five. That, however, requires intentionality in socializing employees and introducing new hires to the company and colleagues in the name of building culture. Atlassian asks new employees to share introductory blogs, assigns them all new-hire buddies, and offers a peer-to-peer recognition program called Kudos, where employees can win gifts of up to $250. “Everyone has an opportunity to get special recognition,” 93% of employees say.
Employees say:
"The values are used in large and small decisions every day. They are not platitudes. There are many opportunities to grow professionally. There are even more opportunities to connect with charity or service organizations. The company gives you two weeks of volunteer time every year, and it is easy to get more."

"The people, the culture, the benefits, and the opportunities. Atlassian somehow manages to balance each element of being an employer masterfully. The people truly care about one another here, and that extends very naturally to caring for our customers and company as a whole. It's an easy thing to do when Atlassian looks out for its employees first and foremost. Leadership quickly and seriously listens to us when we recognize an opportunity for growth, and they move fast to show us they heard."

"Surveys are regularly sent out to staff to pulse-check, and I feel like the company genuinely makes decisions based on survey feedback."
Collaboration software developer Atlassian has considered itself a global company from the beginning, headquartered in Sydney but with significant operations in the U.S. Remote work, already familiar before the pandemic, has since become the norm. Last year the company announced its Team Anywhere policy, which allows employees to work from anywhere in the world. “Atlassian truly cares about its people and their well-being,” says an employee. “Our founders stress the importance of taking time off and practice this themselves, which resonates throughout the company.” Atlassian also encourages its workforce to do good with their time off, offering five paid Foundation Leave days per year, so employees can spend meaningful time volunteering with nonprofit organizations that truly matter to them.

“They are considerate of indigenous history and rights. I love that during our weekly Town Halls, since we are an Australia-based company, we acknowledge the original Gadigal people of Australia and the land they have lived on for eons. I love our culture of gratitude through the Kudos program, birthday and work anniversary shout-outs, and tons of remote social activities and gifting to ensure employees feel connected and appreciated.”
Employees say:
“Atlassian is a 100% remote work company. Employees are welcomed to work wherever Atlassian has a business entity. I am a mother of two small children, so being able to work remotely provides me the flexibility that I need to juggle work and single-parenthood. If it were not for Atlassian's remote work policy, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to join this amazing company.”

“Since day 1, I've felt empowered to suggest new ways of working. Atlassian's values include 'Be the change you seek', and I've truly felt empowered to do so throughout the nearly 7 years that I've been with the company. I like the emphasis on the foundation and donating 1% of profits, time, and resources. I like getting the $1000 contribution matching to all of my donations. Also, Atlassian goes out of its way to ensure employees feel valued and safe, both professionally and personally. I have never been worried to ask for time off for a personal family matter or vacation. Everyone's mental health is a priority. It's amazing and I have no plans on leaving Atlassian and try to bring all of my friends here. So far 5 have gotten jobs.”
