2025 Upland Game Bird Forecast
Whether you find yourself in the high-mountain timber or the lowland-sagebrush steppe, there’s a good chance you’re in upland bird country. Idaho Fish and Game Upland Game and Migratory Game Bird Coordinator Jeff Knetter says last year’s mild winter juxtaposed by this summer’s lack of water could be tough to determine just how upland hunting will be come September.
F&G seeking volunteers to serve on the Citizens Shooting Range Advisory Committee
Idaho Fish and Game is seeking a volunteer representative to serve on the Citizen Shooting Range Advisory Committee (CAC). This year’s application is seeking representatives from the Southwest (Nampa), Southeast (Pocatello), and Salmon Regions. The deadline to apply is Nov. 10.
Youth pheasant hunt scheduled Oct. 4 in Salmon
Get ready for pheasant hunting season this year as Idaho Fish and Game will host a youth pheasant hunt Saturday, October 4 in Salmon. Designed for youth ages 10 to 17, the event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is limited to 15 youth. Advanced registration is required by calling 208-756-2271, visiting the Fish and Game office in Salmon, or registering on Fish and Game's website. The cost is $9.75
Meet Idaho's Pacific Lamprey
A prehistoric creature inhabits the Clearwater and Salmon River systems called the Pacific lamprey. These critters have lived in these waters for over 400 million years! This means that they were around before the age of dinosaurs.

With fall hunting seasons happening, Idaho Fish and Game is asking people to call the Citizens Against Poaching hotline at (800) 632-5999 if they witness a violation of fish and game laws. They’re also encouraging people to add that number to their cell phones so it’s always available.

Idaho Power closing Cottonwood Campground at C.J. Strike starting next week for dock upgrades
Idaho Power’s Cottonwood Campground at C.J. Strike Reservoir will be closed from Sept. 8 through Oct. 31 while the company installs new docks.
