Selling products safely in the EU
EU rules require that all products sold in the EU must be safe, regardless of where they were made. If you are a manufacturer or a business, including all online marketplaces and sellers, involved in selling a product on the EU market, you must ensure that they comply with the applicable product safety legislation.

Safety Gate: reporting unsafe products
EU national authorities have the obligation to control products which are for sale to check that they are safe. If they find a product that could, for example, harm consumers or cause damage to the environment, they will take measures to make sure the product is taken out of the market or banning their trade.
All manufacturers and other businesses linked to the distribution or sale of a product also have the obligation to take measures if they find one of their products is unsafe. For example, they can destroy, withdraw, and recall their products back from their customers to avoid any accidents.
In all these cases, the actions taken are reported on Safety Gate, a system created to exchange information about measures taken against dangerous non-food products at EU level. Agricultural products and pharmaceuticals are not included here, as they have their own alert systems.
If you are a manufacturer, distributor or an authorised representative and you believe one of the products you have on sale doesn't comply with the EU requirements, you have to take measures as soon as possible to avoid these harming consumers and report the measures taken to your national authority via the product Safety Business Gateway.
