"No business case for private investment in charging infrastructure" 🚘⚡ I cannot disagree more... This is a slide from a presentation on the Stanford Energy YouTube channel: https://lnkd.in/ep8EQMga ➡️ EVs are booming in Europe (and elsewhere). And the typical place where (fast) EV chargers are located are at shopping malls, Starbucks, McDonald's, hotels, traditional gas stations (see France) and other commercial areas. ➡️ Typically you spend charging a minimum of 20 minutes, so meanwhile you go spending instead of waiting in the car. And since most EV drivers are upper-middle class consumers, that's a lot of additional spending power. ➡️ So if you ask me, investing in EV charging infrastructure IS one of the best investments to make [at the right location] - given the incentives and political push for more EVs. Also NOT having EV chargers in a commercial area will lose customers, since [we/they] seek places to charge. PS: EVs are cleaner, faster and in my opinion more fun to drive than stinky ICEs [on a daily basis] :) PPS: the information on the slide comes from a 2015 report, which is very outdated. 🚗⚠️ NEW DGT 2025 RULES: KEY CHANGES FOR ROAD SAFETY 🚨 The DGT (Traffic General Directorate - Spain) will implement new regulations affecting all vehicles, especially motorcycles, tow trucks, and emergency vehicles. What changes will 2025 bring? 1️⃣ No overtaking in bad weather. Overtaking will be banned on highways when there is snow or ice, to facilitate snowplows' work and keep the left lane clear for emergency vehicles. ❄️🚧 2️⃣ Emergency lane in traffic jams. Drivers must create a space for ambulances and priority vehicles in case of traffic congestion. 🚑🚗 3️⃣ Motorcycles on the shoulder. Motorcycles will be allowed to ride on the shoulder in traffic jams, respecting a speed limit of 30 km/h and yielding to bicycles. 🏍️⛔ 4️⃣ Tow trucks and priority vehicles on the shoulder. Setting up a single charge point for an electric vehicle (EV) can be simple. However, it becomes complicated when you want to set up multiple chargers in different locations and operate them efficiently. DOTCSA Request for Industry Comment- About the Accumulation of On-duty Time in Electric Charging of Trucks. This a request for Comment or Best Practices from Industry DOT Regulations Pro, preferably those employed by a Motor Carrier. Please Let's keep it Professional and within the language of the Federal DOT Regulations. I have ZERO desire or ambition in "how" this should or shouldn't be done, I just know how existing DOT Regulations apply. With Advent of Electric Trucks... there's more Industry Articles on Charging Trucks and developing Battery Tech. However, there's not really any articles that consider how long it's going to eat into a Driver's HOURS-OF-SERVICE Regulations for Driving Time and On-duty Time. There's also NO Federal DOT Interpretation on this, the Time it takes to charge your Truck is 100% tied to the Definition of- On-Duty Time per 49 CFR 395.2- "On-duty Time- Means ALL time from the time a driver begins to work or is required to be in readiness to work until the time the driver is relieved from work and all responsibility for performing work. On-duty time shall include: (2) ALL TIME inspecting, servicing, or conditioning any commercial motor vehicle at ANY time". However, how would this apply to a Driver in their Sleeper Berth listing "Off-Duty" if and when the Electric Charging is complete? In review of the On-duty Time Definition, a DRIVER "In Readiness To Work" is not Off-Duty but On-duty... So you can't be in your Sleeper waiting for your Truck to get charged, that would fall under " Being Ready ".... Additionally- the Definition of On-Duty Time for a Driver also says- "Performing any other work in the capacity, employ, or service of, a motor carrier" which would fall under Charging a Truck. Thoughts and Comments? Please, no Negative remarks about HOS rules, there here and not going anywhere save revisions that could take years. I want to understand how DOT Professionals would handle management of this for ensuring a Compliant Hours-of-Service program. Everyone's Opinions Matter, I ask we keep it Professional and based on Regulatory Language and not personal judgments. Some interesting research & insights shared on smart charging shared by the SCALE Project. Similar findings as those identified in the #AgileStreets project in the UK a couple of years ago. Optimising charging sessions through smart charging (scheduled, delayed, pausing session, load management) can provide significant benefits to customers and provide critical grid resilience! This can help EMPs to handel the PDFs of the terms and conditions, contracts, and prices lists they get from roaming platforms. 5) Automated B2B technical customer support --> between CPOs, roaming, and EMPs 6) GenAI and XAI to identify and explain the cause of authentication failures —> one of the biggest problems that make public charging stations unreliable. We have successfully completed two major contracts for zero-emission buses for leading Spanish operators, delivering 38 hydrogen buses to Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) and 50 electric buses to EMT Madrid. Integrating these buses into urban fleets marks a significant milestone in the ambitious decarbonization plans of both cities.
