Abstract
People recovering from psychosis can show of range of problems in their ability to experience certain kinds of emotion and drive. There can also be a lot of shame and stigma around the experience of having suffered a psychosis. CFT is based on a model of affect regulation derived from neuroscience and evolutionary psychology and is particularly suited to exploring the difficulties in recovering from psychosis and offering compassion-focused interventions. In addition it was designed for people with high levels of shame and self-criticism, a common feature in some people recovering from psychosis. This article will explore the application of CFT as a way of conceptualizing some of the difficulties of psychosis and outline some potentially useful interventions
