Mongolia, Sept. 3 -- Russia will build a small modular nuclear power plant in Mongolia,RIA Novosti reports, citing head of RosatomState Atomic Energy CorporationAlexey Likhachev.

According to Likhachev, the station may be managed by a Russian company at the first stage. The NPP will supply electricity to the future city of New Kharkhorum, which is planned to be built on the site of the ancient capital of Genghis Khan.

"We signed a roadmap for the creation of a small modular nuclear power plant in Mongolia at Atomexpo in Sochi in the spring. This is the capacity of 220 to 330 MW that the Mongolian side needs in the region. We have almost approved the technical project and multi-level negotiations were held with Monatom LLC, the Ministry of Energy, and the Security Council of Mongolia on September 2," Likhachev added.

The head of Rosatom added that the key issue is personnel. He also stressed that Mongolia is not a newcomer to uranium technologies and the countries can share experience in the field.
