Wikipedia:Requests for adminship

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Eloquence (talk | contribs) at 03:02, 24 June 2003 (Goat approved). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Here you can make a request for adminship. See Wikipedia:Administrators for what this entails and for a list of current admins.

Current Wikipedia policy is to grant administrator status to anyone who has been an active Wikipedia contributor for a while and is generally a known and trusted member of the community. Most users seem to agree that the more administrators there are the better.

If you want to become an administrator then add your name to the list below. Any user can comment on your request - they might express reservations (because, for example, they suspect you will abuse your new-found powers, or if you've joined very recently), but hopefully they will approve and say lovely things about you.

If there is general agreement that someone who requests adminship should be given it, then a developer will make it so.

Current requests for adminship

  • User:Phil Bordelon - I realize I've only just recently come back from a long (long) absence, but I feel that my edits and additions have been responsible. I'd like to be able to delete clearly vandalized pages and the like, and I think I've shown an ability to integrate changes, draw things closer to a NPOV, and the like.
    • I'll second you for condensing a 766 page book while including every spoiler possible. -- Jim Regan 01:20 23 Jun 2003 (UTC)

Nominations for adminship

Note:Nominations have to be accepted by the user in question. If you nominate a user, please also leave a message on their talk page and inform them about their listing on this page.

  • User:Ram-Man (creator of Rambot which generated 30,000 US place articles)
    • Simply having a bot that is capable of performing hundreds of edits a minute without those edits showing up in Recent Changes and never once abusing that capability or even making serious mistakes is proof that he is very careful and does not abuse any power he may have. This nomination is long overdue (just for heaven's sake let's never make Rambot an Admin!). --mav 02:33 23 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Seconded, and agreed about Rambot!. -- John Owens 23:03 23 Jun 2003 (UTC)

Recently created admins

(most recent first)

  • User:Goatasaur - nominated via this mailing list post.
    • I've deleted many pages previously blanked by goatasaur; he should be able to delete them right off the bat. -- Notheruser 18:59 22 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Solid, no-fuss contributor. Koyaanis Qatsi 19:00 22 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Seen the name before on recent changes, so probably not on the side of evil. Also, I'm from the Sol system, so all people from the Sol system are probably on the side of good. (If there was such a thing as good and evil, that is.) كسيپ Cyp 19:06 22 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Definately
    • Goatasaur should be an Admin for having a really cool handle alone! But even if Goatasaur had a boring handle I would add my support. --mav 00:31 23 Jun 2003 (UTC)
      • While I also support goatasaur for Admin, I would like to point out that despite Mav's obvious affection for his handle, I am a bit more wary... What exactly is this mysterious goatasaur, and do we need to fear a huge herd/flock/etc. of them overrunning the Earth? --Dante Alighieri 09:13 23 Jun 2003 (UTC)
        • I don't know what you would call a group of goatasaurs. A "pile" would be apt, as we are quite lazy. -- goatasaur
    • Nthed. -- John Owens 23:03 23 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Though I am the original nominator via email (because of error messages I could not get to do it via this page) I want to add my support here. Goatasaur is a competent, hardworking, capable user who would in my view make an excellent and valued sysop. FearÉIREANN 23:11 23 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • I would love to be an administrator. Thanks for the support. -- goatasaur 03:31 23 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • Olivier - I have been here for quite a while now...
    • I thought you already were! Of course you should be. --mav
    • Support: Olivier's organizational skills and patience are evident in him wikilinking virtual orphans, and the maintenaince of some ever-growing large lists. And the 5th most active! --Menchi 09:28 20 Jun 2003 (UTC)
      • He's not really the 5th most active, he's the 2nd most active, after mav. The other 3 are computers. I'm sure he had his own reasons for not becoming a sysop up until now. Is this a sign that the negative connotations associated with sysophood are dissolving? -- Tim Starling 04:02 23 Jun 2003 (UTC)
        • The main reason why I had not requested the adminship earlier was that it was necessitating a subscription to the mailing list. And I really do not want to drown into another mailing list. Nothing to do with any connotation attached with adminship.olivier 14:32 23 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Of course. User:anthere
    • Yep. -- Oliver P. 16:16 20 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • fifthed -- kt2 02:59 21 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • Poor Yorick, Hi! I'd wouldn't mind being an admin. Poor Yorick 02:26 18 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Seconded. I've seen Poor Yorick for some time, and with some good edits. --cprompt 02:31 19 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Make it so! --mav
    • One more in favour. Have read his edits. Fine. -- Cimon Avaro on a pogo stick 07:44 20 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Fourthed or fifthed, not sure which - noticed the name before, some time, and didn't notice any evil edits. كسيپ Cyp 08:35 21 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • G-Man Well I've been here since February and I must have written at least 100 articles in that time, I wouldent mind becoming an administrator. G-Man 00:08 18 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Yep. G-Man is one of the good guys. Second anyone? --mav
  • Nomination: kt2, a Canadian largely unrecognized for his over 5000 edits (the 31st active). He has encountered his share of impoliteness from others, but, as far as I can tell, has never responded eye-for-an-eye. Judging from his past contribution, Kt2 is probably not too into banning or reverting edit wars, but administratorship allow him to maintain the articles he works on more easily and faster, as his workload is still going strong and stable.
    • He is a trustworthy and experienced Wikipedian, and with qualities suitable as an admininstrator. --Menchi 12:53 19 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Make it so! --mav
    • Can't, until kt2 accepts. --Eloquence 00:56 20 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Thanx for nomination. I'll accept that and look forward to contributing my share of abilities. kt2
    • Warmly support kt2, although my admin status is still pending. olivier 15:09 21 Jun 2003 (UTC)
  • James F. - I just want to fix the standardisation errors, minor tweaks, and so on on the Main Page and others which sometimes crop up without having to bother anyone else. James F. 06:12 20 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Support: I read his entire biography, admittedly short, to see if he's a sicko. And apparently he's not. Just another computer scientist geek (Yes, probably like you!) who likes to walk around (probably stalking people!!) and studies in the department of a renowned university. Although he seems to have a minor Anglocentric tendency, and a weird one at that, to spell our name as "Wikip[a]edia" on his webpage. :-D
He's a Liberal Democrat. WP doesn't explain their ideology, but assuming from the name, it's not a racist, homophobic crap-party? (No idea)
In addition to his seeming intelligent and unbiased life, he writes pretty good too. I like his one-paragraph explanation of the the Brit secondary education system, very encyclopedic.
So, I'd say he'll make a good admin so he can do those tweaks he'd like. --Menchi 07:06 20 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • Seconded Angela 13:22 20 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • The lLib Dems are certainly not racist or homphobic. As for crap I couldn't possibly comment ;-) I'm happy to support James' nomination/application Theresa knott 13:24 20 Jun 2003 (UTC)
    • I certainly hope that the Lib Dems aren't racist or homophobic or anything like that, because I've voted for them often enough. :) And yes, Mr. F. seems a sensible chap, so I support his sysop request. In fact, I suggested that he should make such a request just last night. I wonder if that's just a coincidence... ;) -- Oliver P. 16:16 20 Jun 2003 (UTC)
