BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 3. Transit through Iran's Sarakhs railway, located in the northeastern Razavi Khorasan Province, has surged by 65 percent during the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025) compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024), the Director-General of the province's railway operations, Mustafa Nasiri Warag, told local media, Trend reports.
Nasiri Warag noted that during the past Iranian year, 1.95 million tons of goods were transited through the Sarakhs railway.
The official explained that 1.75 million tons of goods entered Iran from Turkmenistan for transit purposes. The products were primarily transported towards the Bandar Abbas port.
The railway official also stated that a total of 3.12 million tons of cargo were carried through the Sarakhs railway, marking a 35 percent increase compared to the previous year. A total of 86,000 wagons were used for transporting this volume of goods.
The Sarakhs County lies at the border between Iran and Turkmenistan, and both road and railway transportation are available for cargo transit in this area.
