Superhero Capital, a Helsinki-based venture capital firm dedicated to investing in early-stage software startups across Finland and the Baltics, has announced the launch of its fourth fund with a target of €50 million. “Our goal with this fund is simple: empower visionary founders at the earliest stages who have what it takes to create meaningful change,” said Jakob Storå, co-founder of Superhero Capital. Limited Partners in the new fund include Elo Mutual Pension Insurance Company and the Finnish state-owned venture capital and private equity company Tesi.

We urgently need robust AI to address our most pressing challenges - for better health and cheaper drugs, more efficient energy and materials, and more sustainable mobility, for high quality jobs through advanced manufacturing, and to secure our democratic norms. If we're looking for places to justify the enormous costs of compute, these are the areas to which our investment and talent should flow. As NATO allies meet in Washington, really great to see Helsing continue to pave the way for AI impact at scale in defence, as a European peer to pathfinders like Anduril Industries. As the new UK government asserted this week, there's no more important mission than deterring countries who stand against democratic norms. While the pace of investment in defence and wider deep tech in the US has been impressive, we urgently need to do much more across NATO and other advanced democracies. We need dedicated founders and teams, experienced and committed investors, forward-thinking industrial primes - and governments which are willing to act as strategic customers. We also need to do a better job of finding breakthrough new technologies in our world-class universities and bringing them into these large-scale enterprises, and we've news to come on that from the University of Oxford in coming months. If we want to generate wealth for all, provide new energy at scale, and secure democratic norms, we need to move much faster - in defence and in related industrial sectors, from robotics to biotech. Congratulations again to the Helsing team as true European pioneers in all of this.
