#BREAKING: I just received the 2023 results for UAB #Bifinity, owned by Binance founder #ChangpengZhao, in #Lithuania. Revenue decreased by about 50% to EUR 229.8m, but the EUR 42.9m loss from the previous year was replaced by a EUR 105m net profit. Bifinity, which appointed a new CEO, Jonas Jünger, last year, also reported paying EUR 30m in taxes in Lithuania over the past 12 months. In the last three years, they have paid approximately EUR 50m in income taxes alone. A link to my interview with Jonas is in the comments.

Are most accelerators acting as farm leagues for the startup scouting ecosystem? I just arrived at the Startup Lithuania conference to ask this question to panelists from the Plug and Play Tech Center, GameBCN and xEDU communities. Having supported ~300 startups scouted by the Mastercard Lighthouse program and Nordic Science Capital, I believe incubators play a pivotal role in talent development. Indeed, 5 of the top 10 biotechs of all time (ranked by peak market cap) were started in incubators: 1. Amgen ($177b) ✅ 2. Moderna ($170b) ✅ 3. Regeneron ($131b) 4. Vertex Pharmaceuticals ($120b) 5. I have been involved in startups since 2012 and am currently working on my revolutionary startup UchGuch. Among consultants, I often meet the opinion that a startup team needs to focus on one idea. But this is contrary to the skills of a startup team, if you meet a cool startup team, they can quickly come up with and validate ideas and this is their main task in the market, that's why they are looking for investments, to create a team that will develop a failed successful idea. But practically none of the available tools on the market allows a startup team to register or apply for all the ideas they have in the pipeline at once. Often startups themselves burn out as the graveyard of hypotheses grows. If a startup team cannot recognize in time that their hypothesis is not promising and honestly tell the investor about it, a lot of money will be spent and there will be a lot of frustration for everyone. Latvian FinTech startup inGain raises EUR 650,000. Latvian FinTech startup inGain has announced that it has raised EUR 650,000 in funding from venture capital funds Trind VC and Fiedler Capital, as well as from the Latvian Business Angels network and several business angels. This is the first publicly announced investment in Latvian startups this year. inGain offers a no-code SaaS loan management system to FinTech companies, as well as other businesses that want to offer lending to their customers. Latvian startup inGain aims to offer a no-code SaaS solution to enable companies in different industries to make their products more accessible to customers through lending. According to inGain, this is the way how to solve one of the biggest challenges in lending where traditional banks cannot offer lending solutions for specific products. A couple of weeks ago we had WSA European Young Innovators jury in Vilnius. I'm so impressed by the ever-increasing quality of the WSA winners across all - business models, branding, positioning, the quality of websites and content, and even traction. When I started my journey with WSA back in 2016, social entrepreneurs rarely spoke about business models and being self-sustainable financially. Social businesses were seen and saw themselves as non-profits, projects, or NGOs. However, making an impact is only really possible when a company or a project is self-sustainable financially first. Fast forward to 2024, and we see that the majority of the nominees are in the mindset of organizing their finances sustainably through creative business models that enable them to expand their impact over time. There were 2 shifts in this perception: - In 2018 everyone was talking about making money as a social business, - In 2022 - we started seeing the majority of nominees and winners implementing self-sustaining business models to their social impact businesses. Looking forward to meeting the new generation of WSA European Young Innovators!
