DJI has dropped a new firmware update for two of its latest drone remote controllers, the DJI RC Pro 2 and DJI RC 2, bringing with it a small but meaningful upgrade: a new screen lock feature that adds a layer of password protection.
For many pilots, this might seem minor, but for those flying in shared spaces or storing sensitive data like video footage on their controllers, it’s a welcome security boost.
With the latest update — v01.00.0300 for the RC Pro 2 and v06.00.0200 for the RC 2 — DJI has added a new screen lock function that allows users to set a password for their controller. Once set, every time the device is powered on, the user must enter the password before gaining access. The DJI Fly app on both devices must also be updated to v1.17.4 or above for the feature to work.

This update also addresses “some known issues,” though DJI hasn’t specified which bugs were resolved.
On both controllers, setting up a password is straightforward:
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to access settings.
- Scroll down to the Security section and select Screen Lock.
- You’ll be prompted to create a password that meets certain complexity requirements.
- Once set, the controller will require this password upon each startup.
Users are cautioned to remember their passwords, as forgetting it means performing a full system reset — erasing all photos, videos, and settings. The feature can be disabled or updated by revisiting the same settings menu.
The DJI RC Pro 2, DJI’s premium smart controller, is designed for flagship drones like the Mavic 4 Pro, Mini 4 Pro, Air 3S, and Air 3, boasting a high-brightness 5.5-inch display and powerful internal specs. The RC 2, a more compact but still capable controller, supports drones like the Mini 4 Pro, Air 3S, Air 3, as well as the most affordable DJI drone, Neo.
