CPH Airport Cargo Development in 2024: Strong Growth and Strategic Advancements
In 2024, Copenhagen Airport (CPH) experienced significant growth in cargo traffic, with a 16% year-on-year (YoY) increase, representing an additional 45,000 tonnes of cargo. This surge highlights the airport's expanding role as the largest air cargo hub in Northern Europe, with a total of 326,000 tonnes of cargo processed.
The growth was driven by a combination of increased belly cargo and integrator freighters, primarily due to the export of industrial consumables, pharmaceuticals, food products, and fresh produce. E-commerce, particularly in clothing and accessories, has also contributed significantly to the rise in imports.
To accommodate rising demand, CPH has expanded its cargo stand capacity, ensuring optimal handling during peak hours. Additionally, Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) has announced the opening of a fourth warehouse facility at Copenhagen Airport to support the growth of its specialized E-commerce & Freight Forwarder Handling (EFFH) services across Scandinavia.
Looking ahead to 2025, the cargo outlook for CPH remains positive. Financial analysts anticipate continued growth in the Nordic region, supported by domestic demand, low inflation, high wage growth, and favorable fiscal and monetary policies. Danish exports, particularly in the pharmaceutical sector, are expected to remain strong.
With robust growth in 2024 and an increase in long-haul and freighter traffic, CPH Airport is well-positioned to sustain momentum into 2025 and beyond. The airport's strategic investments in infrastructure, provide a solid foundation for continued expansion. CPH remains committed to enhancing our services and capabilities to meet the evolving needs of our customers and partners, solidifying our position as the premier cargo hub in Northern Europe.
