It is also known to have a potential impact on human health. Reports indicate possible carcinogenic and mutagenic effects of the dye. Joint expert WHO/ FAO committee on food additives, Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) have defined permissible limits for the use of tartrazine in fermented food products, including probiotic drinks, yet the dye finds wide usage as an additive. This study demonstrates the probable effect of tartrazine, at different concentrations on Lactic acid bacteria commonly used as starter cultures and probiotics. This study indicates the effect of tartrazine in particular on Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus plantarum, Bifidobacterium bifidum.

According to the WHO, among all oral diseases, prevalence rate of periodontitis is very high. As definition given by the American Dental Association, periodontitis is a chronic inflammation of the tooth and its supporting structure which leads to loosening of the teeth in their socket and lastly loss of teeth. From ancient times, peoples are using traditional medicines to prevent or cure the disease. Glycyrrhiza glabra is one of the medicinal plants that show the effectiveness for sore throat and other respiratory infections in researches. Thus, the present study is an attempt to check the efficacy of G. glabra in the prevention and cure of periodontitis. Methodology: A randomized clinical control trial was conducted on 104 patients divided into two groups – experimental group and control group. G. glabra gum paint in 10% concentration was given to patients of experimental group for 4 weeks. All patients were instructed to strictly follow good oral hygiene habits. Parameters used for checking the effectiveness of G. glabra were gingival bleeding, loss of attachment, and depth of periodontal pockets. Results: Preintervention and postintervention scores were analyzed by means of mean, standard deviation, and t-test. There is a significant improvement in periodontal status of patients in the experimental group. Conclusions: Results of the present study revealed that G. glabra was effective in preventing periodontal diseases. The present study also motivates to conduct more Medicinal plant-based clinical trial in the prevention of periodontitis so that effective treatment can be provided with a minimal side effect.

Through this study we present a review of all patients 18 years or less diagnosed histopathologically as orbital or periorbital cystic lesions, over a period of 3 years. Methods Retrospective observational case series of histopathologically proven cysts or lesions with cystic changes, in patients 18 years or less, from Jan 2006 to Dec 2008.Results There were a total of 97 patients, age 4 months to 18 years (mean 11.63 ± 4.48). Cysts of the surface epithelium were the most frequent lesion seen (n:50; 51.5%), of which 39 (40.2%) were dermoid cysts and 11 (11.3%) were simple epithelial cysts. Other lesions in decreasing order of frequency were: inflammatory cystic lesions - abscesses and parasitic cysts (n:16, 16.5%); neural cysts associated with ocular maldevelopment or associated with brain and meningeal tissue (n:14; 14.4%); non-cystic lesions with cystic components like lymphangioma (n:12; 12.4%); and secondary cysts - mucoceles and lacrimal cysts (n:5; 5.2%).Conclusion In our series cysts of the surface epithelium were the most commonly seen cystic lesion. Also noticeable is the high frequency of inflammatory lesions including parasitic and cysticercosis cysts. Cystic lesions behave clinically as benign lesions, however significant morbidity can be associated because of aesthetic considerations and vision loss owing to optic nerve compression.

Dysfunctional Families: The Foundation and Upshot of Female Criminality in India, 2016

In Indian context the break-up of the age-old institution of joint family, long lost family values, unhappy interpersonal relationships, exploitation, abusive relationships and sometimes forced involvement are the major reasons of women's engagement in crime. Though female prisoner represents only 5-6 % of total prison population but consistent increase in the crime rate among women in past few decades become alarmingly conspicuous. Women involved in criminal activities usually have history of abuse and in most of the cases they are the real victim of situational crime. Generally, women are less inclined towards crime than man and tend to commit minor crime like forgery, prostitution, drug trafficking, and burglary etc. But the consequences they face are way more terrible, not in terms of duration of sentence but the psychological and social issues they confront behind the bars and social rejection after their release. Sometimes their own families refuse to accept them and children of female prisoners become the additional victim of their mother's act. Due to absence of female specially a mother from the family because of incarceration, the family itself become dysfunctional again. At this juncture of time there is a great need to attract researchers' and social workers' attention towards outcomes of dysfunctional families and tackle this problem before it takes some major form. Besides there is a great need to change community's attitude towards imprisonment so that reintegration of prisoners after completing their sentence in the family and society will be easier.
