German startup airline EVIA AERO GmbH has signed a letter of intent with Britten-Norman to purchase 15 Britten-Norman Islander aircraft. According to Evia, the aircraft acquired from Britten-Norman will commence delivery at the beginning of 2027. These aircraft will then be converted to zero-emissions platforms powered by hydrogen fuel-cell propulsion systems. Florian Kruse, CEO at Evia Aero said: “We are fully committed to the Britten-Norman Islander. The aircraft fulfils all the skills we need as an operator for short-haul flights. EVIA AERO GmbH and Britten-Norman have signed a Letter of Intent for fifteen new Islander aircraft in a boost for zero-emissions aviation. The 15 Islander aircraft acquired from Britten-Norman will commence delivery at the beginning of 2027. These aircraft will subsequently be converted to zero-emissions platforms powered by hydrogen fuel-cell propulsion systems. In addition to the aircraft purchase, the collaboration includes the redesigning of the Islander’s interior for a next-generation passenger experience. The new interiors will combine increased passenger comfort and functionality, as well as ensuring compatibility with sustainable aviation technologies. Airbus and Avincis, a well-established European helicopter operator, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to partner on the development of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). The companies will collaborate to explore opportunities for operating electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft throughout Europe. Through the agreement, Airbus and Avincis will focus on defining the concept of operations for eVTOLs in Europe and beyond. Both parties will jointly work to define mission profiles for eVTOL operations in Europe and other target regions. This agreement is another step towards the creation of an AAM ecosystem and is an expansion of Airbus’ long standing relationship with Avincis. The Avincis global fleet currently includes around 60 Airbus aircraft, which are critical to delivering safe, reliable and consistent operations from its bases across Europe, Africa and South America.
