Gen-Z Experts  HINT #001 Generation-Z is not one single target group. — Max & Leander: We are often generalized quickly. In our opinion, our target group is even the one that could not be more diverse. There are a multitude of individual "bubbles" that operate completely separately within the TikTok / Instagram / YouTube / … algorithm. When Achraf from 6PM announces a new drop on TikTok, this information reaches hundreds of thousands of young people in Germany, while it completely bypasses another hundred thousand and would never appear on their „For You Page“. There might be overlapping "bubbles" that then start discussing in the comments. Some people just stumble upon it, and others simply swipe directly past it. It is a large, complex network of individual communities that all exist parallelly on the same platform and yet could not consume more differently. That is why we prefer the term "Communities" over "Target Groups" or "Style Groups". With platforms like TikTok, where users can engage through comments and create content on various topics, companies no longer target individuals but rather communities. These communities, rich with peer opinions, hold significant influence. So, what now? The first step to better understanding this target group, Generation Z, is to start dissolving the belief that it is one large target group but many small, individual communities. As a member of the World Economic Forum Expert Network, I am grateful to have access to the forum's most important events. The 'Annual Meeting' in January is certainly key and this year we were even represented in Davos with our own b/uegain GmbH CxO Luncheon. Less well-known, but also an important platform for global dialogue, is the Annual Meeting of the New Champions with a focus on Innovation, Science and Technology taking place in Dalian, China this year. The opening session with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Polish President Andrzej Duda and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh set the tone for a packed agenda of numerous sessions on improving the state of the world at a time when we are facing an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape and economic uncertainty. And here come few of my key take aways: 🌍🧠 China will contribute more than a quarter of global growth in 2024, however is currently facing structural challenges. In his speech, Li emphasized the central role of companies and innovation. He highlighted three areas of technology - artificial intelligence, green energy and biomedicine - that have the potential to develop into "multi-trillion dollar industries". 💡🌊 Companies that are at the forefront of the market should feel changes in demand early on and have a strong drive to innovate. In our world, innovation is not a zero-sum game, but the focus should be on creating 'blue oceans', hence making the pie bigger, and using economies of scale to reduce the cost of innovation. 👩‍🔧👩‍🚀 Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized Vietnam's commitment to sustainable and inclusive development with a focus on digital and green economies. He especially emphasized the need for highly skilled human resources that requires #NewLeadership: "We need to adopt a new mindset and approach that is people-centered and inclusive, ensuring benefits for all." 💸💚 It is clear that we are moving towards a NEW global economy. We expect growth of 3.1% in 2024, which signals the transition to a new normal rather than a return to previous models. Governments are focusing on technology and green industries to ensure competitiveness, while geo-economic competition is dampening trade. As leaders, we need to get inflation under control through coordinated monetary policy and promote sustainable and inclusive growth. 🏫👩‍🏫 Above all, we need to invest in people. Nearly a quarter of jobs and 44% of workers' skills will be at risk over the next five years from the geo-economy, technology and the green transition. To address this, coordinated efforts are needed to retrain and upskill the workforce and innovative approaches to ensuring a resilient workforce will take center stage. 🤩 I am happy to share another brilliant and inspirational piece of work of our dear client, Philine Prof. Freifrau von Sell, and for (also our client at OVERW8) KATHARINA HOVMAN, her sister and Hamburg-based cosmopolitan fashion brand. For each season, she creates the in the meanwhile famous "lookbooks" - a storytelling 3D way of representing the new collection and colour palette of the season. I look forward to discovering these little treasures each time. 💡🛠 Our job at o8, by the way, was to help turn the idea into a feasible tech solution for Shopify. Philine shared her idea of how she would actually envision representing the new collections online. At first, it looked like it couldn't be done... but nothing we would stop short of! 🤠 We held a 'powwow' about how we could enable this in Shopify's overall great but creative-wise pretty restricted real, then built her like a custom app so she could turn her vision into a 360° experience with audio, video, and well-structured copy. It was a one-off investment that now elevates the brand's story several times a year to a different level while not having to fiddle with the already existing tech-based. The use cases for #genAI are more obvious in some sectors than others. ✳ In content creation and distribution (media, advertising, marketing, and software) the use cases are the most obvious of all. ✴ Research by #UChicago and Statistics Denmark (https://shorturl.at/Fz6t7) explored how different occupations have adopted ChatGPT.   ✳ Usage is highest among marketing professionals, journalists and software developers (100k workers across 11 occupations surveyed Nov 23 - Jan 24). 🥇 My take: media's gold medal for adoption reflects scars from the transition to #digitalmedia. They learned it's critical to lean in early to #techdisruption, rather than wait and see.
