Worth reading… According to forecasts by analysts at Goldman Sachs, the target price for SAP shares is 240 euros. Starting from a low of 80 euros per share around two years ago, this would represent a tripling within a few months. The assessments of other financial analysts are not quite as euphoric, but also spectacular: JP Morgan sees SAP shares at 220 euros, UBS from Switzerland at 222 euros and the analyst firm Jefferies from New York, USA, even at 225 euros. The reasons for this share success are manifold, but not unknown: The #ERP world market leader's business development is only part of the answer. Great article by Jon Reed on where SAP #customers do stand re #RISE #S4HANA, #AI and #digitaltransformation. I think the following statement of German-speaking SAP User Group (DSAG e.V.) chairman Jens Hungershausen summarizes the fundamental problem of SAP RISE "I think the customers are deciding if they're going to do a real transformation. And in that case, if they have enough time to do real transformation coming from an ECC system, going to S/4, or if the customers have to do a brownfield migration - because they just don't have enough time to do real transformation, to really use and take benefit for S/4. 2027 is not so far away, so some timelines are closing." SAP RISE front loads cost - way before the benefits are coming in. MyPoV: - There are ways between Greenfield and Brownfield - There is a necessity for a more flexible offering that already helps in harvesting some of the benefits of cleaning up the core and innovating processes. The tea at SAP is PIPING hot. ☕ As SAP drives forward with a transformative restructuring plan led by CEO Christian Klein, it’s clear that internal morale has taken a hit. An internal survey reveals that just 38% of German employees express “full trust” in the #executive board—the lowest it’s been in three years. Only 15% feel that recent reorganizations have positively impacted their working conditions. Despite SAP’s record-high stock prices, confidence in leadership remains a challenge, especially within the Technology & Innovation division, where support stands at just 31%. The transition period has also seen significant departures, with Chief Marketing Officer Julia White, Chief Revenue Officer Scott Russell, and soon-to-leave Chief Technology Officer Jürgen Müller among them. Adding to the complex environment, SAP faces a U.S. Justice Department civil investigation concerning alleged price-fixing with reseller Carahsoft. Meanwhile, Germany’s tech talent market remains fiercely competitive, and 51% of SAP’s surveyed employees would consider a similarly compensated role with a competitor. *** Public Cloud ERP - easy for some, difficult for others? *** In my keynote at the SAP Cloud Partner Summit 2024, I emphasized a critical aspect that SAP Cloud Partners must confront head-on: The majority of success stories with SAP Public Cloud ERP follow a similar narrative: Young, dynamic consultants propel youthful, dynamic organizations onto Public Cloud ERPs. But is this alignment with what we truly want and what our customers genuinely need? The largest part of SAP installed base customers are no startup hipsters but seasoned enterprises who have build up complex SAP legacy landscapes. So while the advantages of Cloud ERP are clear to those not tethered to outdated IT principles of the 90s, are we inadvertently fostering a two class environment? One where entrenched, legacy-laden customers, burdened by massive legacy architectures that stifle innovation due to antiquated processes, are simply transferred (yet again) onto a Private Cloud ERP setup, perpetuating their status as enduring roadblocks while meanwhile Public Cloud newcomers surge ahead, harnessing the transformative capabilities of SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud. In many instances, this situation persists because we (SAP and partners) fail to sufficiently address the formidable challenge of customers' legacy processes. It's exacerbated by a dwindling pool of (pre-)sales and consulting professionals with hands-on experience, unable to effectively challenge the inertia guarding the legacy world. These arguments are all too familiar: a) "Our legacy processes are the only viable way of working" (False: Results are essential, not the means to achieve them. In most cases, Cloud ERP offers superior methods and capabilities.) and: b) "Our organization would be overwhelmed by changing our processes" (False: Consider the consequences if a competitor adopts a different mindset.) It's incumbent upon SAP and its partners to rise to the occasion, much like personal trainers addressing their clients' bad habits. We must make our hands dirty and fight the dragon, challenge these entrenched assumptions, drawing upon our industry expertise to consult effectively. At Westernacher Consulting, our recent focus has been on SAP adopters that are not your typical Cloud "easy-peasies," but rather established, legacy customers from the manufacturing industries. Admittedly, it's no walk in the park to transition these customers to the public cloud. However, with a deep understanding of business and industry dynamics, coupled with adept change management skills, it can be achieved. We need to be no longer mere implementers of technical solutions or mere reciters of marketing slogans; we need to be consultants capable of elevating our customers' businesses by enabling them to leverage the full potential of Cloud ERP capabilities. Reflections on Day 2 at DSAG in Leipzig: IT Landscape and SAP Transitions Current IT Landscape & S/4HANA Adoption: A significant portion of companies (47%) still operate on #ECC (On-Premises), while 42% have moved to #S4HANA On-Premise!. However, cloud adoption remains slow, with just 8% using S/4HANA Cloud (#RISE) and 3% on S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition (#GROW), signaling a cautious approach toward cloud migration. Impact on Software Maintenance Costs: Keynote speakers urged SAP to reconsider its #maintenance fees, particularly as On-Premise solutions are being phased out. As companies weigh their options, the cost of maintaining #legacy systems will be crucial in driving cloud #transition decisions. Future Path for #ECC Users: Among the 47% ECC users, 39% plan to migrate to S/4HANA On-Premise, and 24% are considering RISE cloud Options, the remainder is undecided. BTP’s Expanding Role: With 41% of companies already using SAP’s Business Technology Platform (#BTP), it’s clear that BTP is becoming a key enabler of future digital transformation. Another 19% are considering integration, while 24% remain undecided.
