🚀 The rollercoaster ride of the “Omnibus Sustainability Package” – clarity at last? Implications for the VC/PE industry We want to join in the ‘Omnibus Choir’ and contribute to the numerous publications on the ‘Omnibus Sustainability Package’ of the European Commission 😉 – but not without adding our own unique take for the PC/VE industry. Published on February 26, the Omnibus Sustainability Package aims to simplify European sustainability reporting (CSRD, CS3D, EU Taxonomy) while keeping the European Green Deal intact. In our latest briefing (link in comments), we analyse the key changes and cover, among other topics: 🔹 Fewer and later – The reporting frameworks will apply to substantially fewer companies. With a delayed timeline and reduced scope, portfolio companies outside the CSRD’s reach will face less trickle-down compliance burden, indirectly benefiting PE/VC funds. 🔹 VSME Standard – The Commission continues to promote the VSME standard for SMEs outside the CSRD’s scope. If aligned with investor needs, it could become a new market standard also for reporting to PE/VC backers under SFDR. Additionally, it acts as a shield for companies with < 1,000 employees, limiting excessive data requests from CSRD-regulated entities. 🔹 Impact Investing – Reporting frameworks don’t drive innovation, but action does. All impact investing strategies can still be set up with or without the proposed omnibus changes and are likely needed more than ever. Will Europe stay on course to support future-oriented tech, European autonomy, and resilience? 🔹 SFDR Reporting – The proposal doesn’t address SFDR, leaving uncertainty around its interaction with CSRD. Asset managers and investors could be most disadvantaged, as SMEs drop out of scope, access to relevant data could lag. This makes it more difficult to align investments with the Green Deal. 💡 Check out the briefing by YPOG’s Fabian Euhus, Dr. Carolin Raspé, Florian Thrun, Dana Franziska Ritter, and Nick Tamburello. ➡️ Link in the comments below. #CSRD #CSDDD #CS3D #Omnibus #EUTaxonomy #SFDR #VentureCapital #PrivateEquity #ImpactInvesting #ESG
