You’ve probably seen the headlines—big changes to CSRD and CSDDD. Regulations are loosening, timelines are delayed, and 80% of companies may feel “off the hook”. A reason to breathe easy? Not really. CO₂ emissions and costs aren’t going anywhere. Investors, banks, and corporate partners still expect emissions data—especially for Scope 3, like business travel. If anything, the pressure is shifting from compliance to business reality. Annual reports won’t cut it. Companies that invest in systematic CO₂ tracking, real reduction strategies, and policies that drive business value will come out on top. Those who don’t? I had the privilege of addressing the room of senior executives at ATG Travel Worldwide’s global summit in Cape Town on Monday. It’s great to see how large travel management organisations are incorporating sustainability as a core focus to their strategy and planning. Key takeaways: 🌍 Global temperatures have risen over +1°C since 1980, driving environmental, legislative, and stakeholder pressures. 📜 Regulations like the Paris Agreement, CSRD, SBTi, EU-ETS, and European Climate Law demand greater corporate transparency and compliance. 💡 Consumer expectations are rising—54% consider CSR practices in purchasing decisions. ✈️ Travel emissions are growing, hitting 70.7M metric tonnes of CO₂ in 2024, with air passengers set to double by 2050. 🔗 Technology can bridge data gaps across transport modes. 🌱 Credible solutions (e.g., SAF, biochar) help compensate residual travel emissions. ☝🏼 Don’t stop traveling—travel smarter. This February, SQUAKE and Reed & Mackay are celebrating our 2 year anniversary 💐 In 2022, we partnered with Reed & Mackay to meet growing client demand for understanding and managing their carbon travel impact.  Together, we’ve focused on: 1.
