+++ #Exit News +++: Preventio, which merged last year with SpinLab alumni PipePredict has been acquired by Diehl Metering, a global leader in smart metering solutions. This milestone also represents the second exit for the Smart Infrastructure Ventures ('SIVentures') portfolio—following mementor by ResMed, another SpinLab success story. 🎉 PipePredict, is known for its advanced solutions in pipeline monitoring and leak detection and joined forces with Preventio in 2023. .Preventio's #AI technology analyzes historical and current data to detect leaks and anomalies in the water and heat supply network. This will complement Diehl Metering's existing software products, Water Loss Management and Energy Forecast Management, providing customers with even more robust tools to manage their resources efficiently. This week, 20 #startups traveled to ➡️ #Leipzig to present their ideas at the SpinLab Selection Days. From hundreds of applications, these teams made it into the final round, where they had the chance to secure a spot in our next cohort. The evaluation process was intensive—each application was carefully reviewed by the SpinLab team and our partners. So much light over #Leipzig ✨ Yesterday, the Public Value Award for Start-ups 🏆 was presented for the eighth time under the theme 'Start-ups make society'. The award recognizes #startups and #scaleups that create measurable value for society through their products and services. The final, with over 200 participants, showcased how companies are driving positive change in society through innovative, socially-conscious business models. Whether contributing to the #energy transition, advancing the #circulareconomy, improving #health, or fostering social inclusion, the entrepreneurs demonstrated that success is about more than just profit. 🤝 This is our second year as part of the Public Value Award for Start-ups, and we are excited to continue working together to make a positive impact. Securing 💸 #funding is one of the biggest challenges for startups. To support them, we offer various matchmaking formats. Alongside our annual HHL #InvestorsDay, we also organize events like the exclusive 🍽️ Investor Dinner. The third edition took place in Frankfurt am Main. At the dinner provided #startups and #investors an opportunity to connect directly in an intimate setting. And since we were in Frankfurt, a visit to the Deutsche Börse 🏦 was a must. As part of the investors dinner program, we visited the Deutsche Börse, Germany's largest stock exchange, gaining valuable insights into its role in global trading. Web Summit 2024: Scaling European Startups – Breaking Down Barriers Web Summit showcased the largest German Pavilion to date, with over 80 startups representing Germany’s ecosystem. ✨ A premiere: Robert Habeck brought along an all-female delegation of founders, including SpinLab Alumni Irina Weis, co-founder of DieEnergiekoppler GmbH. Discussions at #WebSummit2024 emphasized the importance of #diversity beyond gender, highlighting the need for inclusion in #leadership, equitable access to #funding, and opportunities for underrepresented groups in #tech. A key challenge raised was the systemic barriers hindering startups and #scaleups, including fragmented markets, regulatory complexity, and limited access to growth capital. 📈 The potential is there: Pedro Santos Vieira from 500 Global shared that European VC funds have outperformed US funds in net annual returns over the past two decades. While Europe represents just a third of the US market in capital deployment, its growth potential is significant. However, retaining talent is critical, as many are drawn to opportunities abroad. 🌍 To enable startups to innovate and scale, the EU 🇪🇺 must simplify and harmonize regulations, fostering an ecosystem where businesses can thrive without unnecessary barriers. Back in Vienna for the second edition of the EIT Health bootcamp! 🇦🇹 We have just returned from Austria, where we had the opportunity to work closely with 9 emerging #health #startups from across Europe.🇪🇺 The bootcamp was intense and covered topics such as the inner workings of venture capital, the role of #AI in #fundraising, success factors in raising investments, relevant USPs for #investors, and product-market fit. 💪🏼 The highlight was the pitch competition featuring our jury of #investors: Behzad Shirmardi, Vadim Balashov, Matthias Leibetseder, Christian Bouda, Kevin Seebacher 🏆 Congrats to Glooma for the best pitch during the EIT Health bootcamp.
