Die Zeichen sind deutlich: Unsere Demokratie ist nicht selbstverständlich. Und jetzt sind wir alle gefragt! Wir stellen deshalb in diesem Jahr die Förderung des gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalts und gelebter Demokratie in den Mittelpunkt unserer Arbeit. In Zahlen sind das rund 💶 11 Millionen Euro für zahlreiche Projekte in Deutschland, darunter: 🗳️ innovative Formate der #Bürgerbeteiligung ⚽ das Leben demokratischer Prozesse an Alltags- und Freizeitorten 🎒 #Demokratiebildung an Schulen Wir glauben an den Dialog als Basis der freiheitlich-rechtlichen Grundordnung. Bringing together voices from 🇺🇦 Ukraine and across 🇪🇺 Europe - that's what #CafeKyiv in Berlin is about. 📍 Hosted by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in collaboration with various partners, the third edition of Café Kyiv offered a dynamic program of panel discussions, alongside cultural showcases like art exhibitions, Ukrainian cuisine and the Skrynya pop-up market. 🎤 Together with our partners Commit gGmbH and NGO "Insha Osvita", we contributed to several thought-provoking panels. We discussed the role of culture during wartime and put a focus on the challenges veterans face transitioning from military to civilian life. 🗯️ In two deeply emotional panels, veterans Natalia Kuzmenko and Bohdan Bunchak, part of the VILNO program by Insha Osvita and supported by us, shared powerful insights into their personal journeys. Migration policy is increasingly characterized by deterrence – and by the use of digital technologies. 📡 💵 Governments are increasingly allocating resources towards their use. And the private sector is constantly developing new technologies, which are often promoted as “solutions” to migration challenges. ⚖️ We are convinced that digital technologies to manage migration must be designed and applied in a way that respects human rights and dignity. This is why we engaged in RightsCon last week, the world’s leading summit on human rights in the digital age.   📢 Together with our partner Aapti Institute we addressed the pivotal role of the private sector in shaping borders and human mobility, and community-oriented technologies for people on the move. There are over a million of Ukrainian #Veterans who have returned home from war – often injured in body and soul. 🎨 The artist Bohdan Bunchak is one of them. He fought in the war against Russia and later helped develop VILNO, a program designed to support veterans as they rebuild their lives.  Founded by the Ukrainian NGO "Insha Osvita" and supported by us, VILNO helps veterans who worked in the fields of culture and education before their military service find their way back to work and everyday life. The program also aims to serve as a model for reintegrating veterans into other professions across Ukraine. 📈 The number of discharged servicemen and women is expected to rise significantly, potentially reaching 4-5 million, making programs like VILNO even more crucial for Ukraine’s future. 💬 Bohdan Bunchak’s report is one of three stories we are sharing about veterans who have found their way back to civilian life. 🔗 Find the link to the full article in the comments. #StandWithUkraine #CivilSociety #Recovery

Die Kleine Anfrage der Unionsfraktion sorgt derzeit für eine große Verunsicherung in der Zivilgesellschaft. Als gemeinnützige Stiftung unterstützen wir - teilweise seit Jahrzehnten - zivilgesellschaftliche Organisationen, die sich für politische Bildung, unser demokratisches Staatswesen und eine offene Debattenkultur einsetzen. Unter diesen Organisationen befinden sich auch einige, die Gegenstand der Kleinen Anfrage der Unionsfraktion sind. 💭 Kritik an einzelnen Positionen oder Arbeitsweisen ist legitim. Doch wenn zivilgesellschaftliche Akteure pauschal als „einseitig politisch“ oder „außer Kontrolle“ bezeichnet werden, droht eine Verzerrung ihrer eigentlichen Rolle. Deshalb haben wir uns gemeinsam mit der Maecenata Stiftung | Maecenata Foundation Stiftung, der Schöpflin Stiftung und der Rudolf Augstein Stiftung in einem offenen Brief an Friedrich Merz und Alexander Dobrindt gewandt und klar Stellung bezogen: ▶️ Demokratie braucht Zivilgesellschaft: Eine Demokratie lebt von unabhängigen Organisationen, die sich für das Gemeinwohl einsetzen und verschiedene Perspektiven sichtbar machen. ▶️ Fakten statt Unterstellungen: In einem sich immer stärker polarisierenden Diskurs ist es von elementarer Bedeutung, keine populistisch vereinfachenden Narrative zu übernehmen. ▶️ Politische Betätigung und Gemeinnützigkeit: Der Grundsatz parteipolitischer Neutralität darf nicht als Gebot sachpolitischer Zurückhaltung missverstanden werden. ▶️ Unterscheidung von Finanzierungsquellen: Zivilgesellschaftliche Organisationen finanzieren sich überwiegend durch Mitgliedsbeiträge, Spenden und Förderungen. Transparenz ist gegeben. Als verlässliche Partner von Zivilgesellschaft und Politik laden wir die Unionsfraktion ein, mit uns in den Dialog über die notwendigen Modernisierungen des Gemeinnützigkeitsrechts und die zentrale Rolle der Zivilgesellschaft in einer funktionierenden Demokratie zu treten. #Zivilgesellschaft #Demokratie #Gemeinwohl

“How can I help you?” This is how every chat begins, Jewhenija Iwanowa tells us. The trained psychologist works as a mentor at the online support service krisenchat Ukrainian. 📲 The chat is a first point of contact for Ukrainians seeking psychological help in acute crises and to share their experiences of war and displacement. Sometimes, as with soldiers in combat, it is also the only place where someone will listen to them. 🗨️ We spoke to Jewhenija about the worries and fears people come to her with, and how the chat is helping to break a social taboo.
